Objective: To emphasize the point that it is upto us to change or influence the situations
around us.
Requirements: No props required.
Total time for the exercise: 30 minutes
Trainer notes:
Tell the group that the purpose of the session is to gain a better understanding of the fact that it is upto each individual to change or influence the situations around him.
For this, we are going to play a fun game.
Ask the class to divide themselves into pairs.
One person in the pair can be called Tom and the other, Jerry.
Tell the participants that you will call out a name (Tom) and the person who is Tom from the pair must start clapping his hands.
The other person must try his best to stop him from clapping his hands.
This activity can go on for five minutes and then the trainer must call out the other name (Jerry) so that the roles are reversed.
Note: The trainer must be very enthusiastic and must constantly urge the people to play their role to the fullest.
After the time period is over, ask the teams to sit down and then ask the participants, what happened? (FACTS)
Expect to hear
● kept trying hard to do the job
● was absolutely focused in continuing to clap
Then ask the participants how they felt? (FEELINGS)
Expect to hear
● was determined to carry out the task
● enthusiastic
● fun
● happy
● feeling of strength
● attitude of never giving up
How can we relate it to daily situations? (FINDINGS)
Here we were doing a fun exercise
We were committed to ensuring that we continued clapping despite opposition
We too charge of the situation and fought with all our might
We were not deterred by the strength of our opponents, coz the enthusiasm, strength and attitude was in your control.
Just so, think of the stresses and obstacles in our life, like this opponent of ours.
The enthusiasm, strength and attitude to overcome these obstacles ARE IN OUR CONTROL in real life too.
Make personal action plan (FUTURE)
So lets look at some of the challenges each one of YOU face in your life and think of what each of one of YOU will do to overcome them.
“There isn’t a person anywhere who isn’t capable of doing more than he thinks he can.”
6. Being 100%
Objective: To establish the point of being 100%.
Requirements: No props required.
Total time for the exercise: 10 to 15 minutes
Trainer notes:
Tell participants to find a partner each
Of the pair, 1 person is A and 1 person is B
Say,
Both partners have to do hand wrestling. However you have to do it half heartedly
Allow 25 seconds
Now say,
Both partners have to do hand wrestling again. This time you have to put in your full energy and might into it.
Allow 40-45 seconds, or stop as you start noticing one of the partners is winning
Expect to see lot of laughter
Debrief
Ask
How did you feel in round 1
Expect to hear
● Not so great
● Un involved
● Did not reach a goal
How did you feel in round 2
Expect to hear
● Great
● Good
Ask,
Some of us won the hand wrestling in round 2 and some of us lost. Yet everyone is looking so happy and cheerful. How did this happen???
Expect to hear
● Because we were fully involved in it
● We gave our best
Go on to establish the course point of Being 100%.
Establish that when you give your 100% to any activity, the journey, the effort is so enjoyable.
