Part II Self-study work

Task 5 Can you discuss? Let?s do it!

I. In our academy, how effective do you think report and sales presentations are? What drives the type of presentation you choose?

While making your outline, you also have to figure out what you want your audience to do after your presentation is over. Are you just trying to give them useful information? Is it one of those cases where you are trying to make a sale? There are four different types of presentations you can give and their purpose is to invoke different reactions.

Informative Speeches

These are the most common types of presentations and are used to present research. A student who is defending a thesis or a non-profit group that did a research study will use informative speeches to present their findings.

Demonstrative Speeches

These will show you how to do something. In introduction to communication classes, these speeches are usually How to Make Cakes kinds of speeches and include different pictures and steps to the process.

Persuasive Speeches

This kind of speech is trying to change the way you think about a subject or issue. If you?ve come to a health conference you may find yourself listening to why you should change your eating habits or stop drinking.

Inspirational Speeches

These speeches are designed to make your audience move. Also considered a ?motivational? speech, this is designed to encourage participants to go after their goals, whatever they may be. Inspirational speeches will tell stories and the hope is that the audience will feel an emotional connection to the topic. These are also a great way to get the audience's attention.

II. Microsoft PowerPoint is a presentation software package. PowerPoint users create and organize slides on a computer, to be printed on paper or acetate transparencies, projected directly from the computer or shared via the Internet. Users can create graphs and diagrams to which they may then add graphics and text. It also allows users to incorporate animation, audio and video elements. As well as presentations, PowerPoint can be used to make games, tutorials, animations and posters. Outline the Methods of Presenting PowerPoint Presentations.

III. True or false? Read the sentences and give your arguments for and against.

1. A PowerPoint presentation is a presentation created using Microsoft PowerPoint software.

2. The presentation is a collection of individual slides that contain information on a topic.

3. PowerPoint presentations are commonly used in business meetings and for training and educational purposes.

Task 6 Can you present? Let?s do it!

I. Creating a PowerPoint presentation to present a topic or subject is a great way to catch your audience's attention. It allows you to compile all of your points onto slides, alongside visual aids. As PowerPoint is used every day, making your display stand out from the rest is important. Thankfully there are a few simple steps that can be taken in order to make your personal creativity shine through in the presentation. Prepare the presentation in which try to present the Types of Powerpoint Presentations. Use information given below.

Instructions

1. Use unique fonts on the slides. Taking the time to find the right font for your presentation aids in creating a unique look. Look in the fonts section of PowerPoint, or online, to find a font that suits your topic or audience. For a business presentation, for example, you should use more streamline lettering, as opposed to a presentation on diamond rings in which you can use something more elegant. Choosing your fonts carefully can make the difference between your slides looking amateur and professional.

2. Take your own photos. If possible, using your own photos in the PowerPoint adds a personal touch, something that will garner a lot of interest at the time of presentation. Not only will you be able to discuss your topic, but you can talk about your experiences and opinions on it with validity.

3. Add music to the presentation. Adding music to your slides will make viewing the presentation more of an experience, like a movie, and less like simply reading a book. If you will be talking throughout most of the viewing, you can simply add music at the beginning and the end.
