If you need tips for definitions making study Appendix 2, p. . It is important that you make your own definitions. However you may find it useful to get acquainted with the definitions given by different sources. Find some of them at pp. 19-20.
People have a variety of contacts throughout their lives. And all of them can be treated as cross-cultural encounters. To differentiate between them, it is possible to single out 4 zones: interpersonal zone includes contacts with your friends, relatives, acquaintances, institutional zone is encounters with your group mates, peers, colleagues, local zone is communication within your community (city, country), and global zone is contacts outside your usual environment (e.g. holiday abroad). There are no strict boundaries between these zones, they overlap. However, thinking of their division can be very useful for reflection on your personal intercultural experience. That is what we offer you to do. First you need to collect ideas and appropriate vocabulary to verbalize these ideas. 1.Study the scheme of 4 zones of intercultural encounters made by Ann Korolyova, a 4th year student of the Belarusian State University and read her comments.
