B ... on the leverage points around the cover (arrowed)2Slacken the clutch cable adjuster at the bracket on the right-hand engine cover and slip the cable end out of the release lever and the bracket (see Section 14). Secure the cable clear of the engine.
3 Unscrew the bolts securing the engine right-hand cover, noting that two secure the clutch cable bracket. Be prepared to catch any residual oil as you remove the cover. If the cover will not lift away easily, break the gasket seal by tapping gently around the sides with a rubber hammer or block of wood and levering carefully on the leverage points around the edge of the cover. Protect the frame with a piece of wood or rag while doing this (see

illustrations).Discard the gasket as a new one must be used. Remove the dowels from either the cover or the crankcase if they are loose.
4 Unscrew the two bolts securing the ignition pulse generator coil to the engine cover and secure the pulse generator clear of the engine. Note the pushrod fitted in the bottom of the shaft in the cover and remove it for safekeeping (see illustration). Itis possible that it is stuck to the release bearing in the centre of the clutch release plate.
5 Working evenly in a criss-cross pattern, gradually slacken the clutch release plate bolts until spring pressure is released, then

remove the bolts, plate and springs (see illustration).
6The clutch nut is staked against a groove in the transmission input shaft (see illustration 15.33d).Unstake the nut using a small punch (see illustration). To slacken the clutch nut the input shaft must be locked. This can be done in several ways:
a) If the engine is in the frame, engage 1st gear and have an assistant hold the rear brake on hard with the rear tyre in firm contact with the ground.
b) Use the service tool, available from aHonda dealer (Pt. No. 07GMB-KT80100).

A clutch centre holding tool can easily be made using two strips of steel bent over at the ends and bolted together in the middle. Note that proprietary versions of this tool are available which use self-locking grips
