Different types of cosmetic products

I know there are so many different types of cosmetic products on the market that you probably have a difficult time figuring out what to buy. Relax, take a deep breath and remember it's all about sales and marketing. Cosmetic companies come up with all kinds of fancy names for products to make you (the customer) think you're buying a one-of-a-kind product - the best ever!! Not so much.

Wanna know why? Because there are only so many different ways a company canalter a product before it gets really weird, and customers will refuse to buy it. So, they place emphasis on ingredients and chemicals that have been present in those products all along, and you're left assuming that it's the "new thing". I know it's not fair, but according to them, it's business.

Before going to your favorite cosmetics counter always ask yourself:

What do I want to change or make better? Be very simple and to the point, but be confident about it. Sales clerks love it when you're unsure about what products you want to buy. Why? The less confidence you have, the more likely they can convince you to purchase products you originally had no intention of buying. That means greater sales for them, and less money for you.

What skin type do I have? The reason I want you to ask yourself this question is because not all types of cosmetic products look good on all skin types. For instance, if you put a cream eyeshadow on a person with oily skin, the product will get clumpy and will not stay in place.

That's it! See, it wasn't that difficult. Now let's get to the good stuff. . .

One of my beauty goals is to help you feel comfortable about wearing the best blush for your skin. It’s very common for women of ethnic beauty to avoid it altogether because of the difficulty of finding shades that work. I’m sure you can recall a time when someone in your family (or a close friend) mistook it for war paint. I remember seeing ladies in my neighborhood with deep red slash marks on their faces, and the look was hideous. Those strong streaks of red or purple on each side of their face made them look like they were ready for battle. For a selection of blush products, click here!

Don’t abandon the practice of wearing the best blush for your skin tone because of those memories or ideas. It can highlight the beauty of your skin by adding a bit of color to your cheekbones. To help you understand it a little better, it’s good to know that blush adds warmth, defines bone structure, and emphasizes certain parts of the face – preferably your cheekbones. As long as you choose the right shade and don’t overdo it, everything will be fine – I promise.

Cream: Cream blush is wonderful if your skin is normal to dry, but please avoid it if you have oily skin. It glides on creamy, and looks very natural. Most cream formulas come in a variety of colors and last throughout the day. Be sure to blend out the edges as much as possible to avoid looking streaky. If you want to tone down the color a bit, just dab a little sheer powder on top and blend outward.

Powder: You simply can’t go wrong with a powder blush. It works with all skin textures, and it is easier to apply than liquids or gels. Dust a little on the apples of your cheeks after applying your foundation, and blend outwards. This version comes in many different colors as well, and looks very natural when applied. I highly recommended this one!

Gel blush (stain): O.k., this formulation can be tricky! I don’t recommend that you wear it unless you have flawless skin, no matter your skin type. The reason is because the gel sinks into pores when it is applied, so it will draw attention to your skin if you have issues. Other than that, it’s a wonderful product and the color it provides is awesome. I recommend applying it with a foundation brush (or something similar), and blend until it looks natural.

Liquid: Liquid blush works exactly like the gel stain in that the application can be tricky, and it’s great to wear if you have flawless skin. This formula dries really quickly after it is applied to the skin, so start the blending process as quickly as possible. Liquids aren’t as common as the cream or powder textures, so when you find it, chances are the color range will be limited.
