CPI 16 – Milano Film Festival

DATES: 10 September – 24 September

WORK: FEST

VOLS: 5 (max 1 volunteer from each country) AGE: 18 - 28 LOCATION: Milan

BACKGROUND: Esterni is a wide-ranging social and cultural project; a movement that stimulates analyses, ideas and events; an ideal of participation that welcomes people expressing their individuality; a work group that thinks and acts in order to bring about a real change. Esterni is involved in many different branches of culture, art and communication; it boosts social interaction and supports the use of public spaces – the real heritage of a community. The ideal of a city scaled to human needs guides every single project thought up by Esterni, from installations to all-round events, from performances to film shows. Since 1996 Milano Film Festival has attracted films and filmmakers from all over the world. It is independent – from the interests of major distributors, from institutional politics, from money, from fashion, from critics. But it is also dependent –on the filmmakers’ creativity and talent, on the expertise, the experience and the skills of the people that organize it, on the work and commitment of hundreds of volunteers. This festival has proved that Milan can be a friendly and hospitable city. For ten days, this festival transforms places and people that pass through them.

FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE FESTIVAL YOU CAN ALSO VISIT THE WEB SITE: http://www.milanofilmfestival.it/ing.php

WORK: First of all, please bear in mind those lots of people like you, including local/Italian volunteers, work together to make the festival happen: be creative, flexible and open to perform different tasks! Before the festival starts, volunteers will help setting up the area - this may involve moving things around, painting, cleaning - and distributing flyers. You must be creative and practical! During the festival, volunteers will help running the Infopoint, distribute information,/programs, sell and check tickets for the projections, They will help manage the staff area where drinks and food are available to staff only. There are usually afternoon and evening shifts (the last one ending around 1am). Volunteers will also contribute to the management of “Directors’ House”, where they will stay. Tasks at the house include welcoming guests upon arrival, general reception duties, get the rooms and beds ready for the guests and preparing breakfast in the morning. Volunteers may also help preparing sandwiches for lunch. Once again, make sure you’re happy to help with whatever is needed – a lot of work is needed to make the festival run smoothly. Be proactive and bring good will! Volunteers will have 2 free days during the workcamp, to be arranged according to the festival’s needs.

ACCOMMODATION: Volunteers will stay at “Directors’ House”, a temporary alternative hostel set up by Esterni to host filmmakers and other guests. Organised every year in a different place, the Directors’ House” provides basic beds, showers and a recreation area. There is usually a kitchen area where breakfast and lunch can be prepared. Not possible stay before 10 September, not possible stay after 24 September! The Festival is in Milan but please do not keep in mind the idea to visit the city every free moment because this is not the aim of the camp!
