4) 4)We may not know the authors of some works but
their art still lives. 5)Art plays a large part in making
our lives infinitely rich.
6)Imagine, just for a minute, a world without
art! 7)Art affects us, makes us laugh or cry,
presents us with a whole range of emotions.
8)Art gives us an understanding that we are
creative and special.
9)On the other hand, art
is such a large part of our everyday lives that
we may hardly even stop thinking about it.
12)Art changes every day, so nobody can
really define what it is.
17)I like paintings and sculptures.
18)I admire the talent of the creators of such forms
maybe because I cannot understand how they
implement their thoughts and vision of reality
in such perfect forms.
19)When I think about my favourite form
of art, it comes to my mind that now I’m keen
on photography.
20)It’s really fantastic when
you see a photo which expresses all the feelings
of the person who took it!
23)I really do not know why but I like black-and-
white photography most.
24)It seems to me
that it is more sincere and touching.

3)1) Dear Victor! 2) Thank you for your last letter,
it was fun to read it. 3) In it you asked me about my
favourite subject at school. 4) I’m ready to give
you my reply. 5) My favourite subject at school
is Physics. 6) It is interesting and exciting!
7) You know, physics can explain almost all the
things and phenomena in the Universe, it has
numerous branches related to all sides of our
life and environment. 8) Besides, physics
helps us in our everyday life — all our actions
involve physical phenomena. 9) I’m interested
in physics so I’m going to study it at university.
10) And what is your favourite school subject?
11) Looking forward to your reply, Borys
4)1)All living organisms need nutrition and
water to live. 2)Nowadays food has become
really easier to prepare and this has completely
changed our lives.
3)We are now more conscious about what we eat.
4)Thanks to new technologies we have learned
how to prepare food faster and now we have more
variety in what we eat.
5)We live in a time that has
brought many changes to the ideas of what is
good and what is bad for our health.
6)It seems
everyone thinks about all these new organic
and low-fat foods.
7)Our lives are fast and we are constantly
searching for new ways to save our time.
8)And food is not an exception— we have
developed technologies for fast preparation
of food like a microwave oven in order to
increase our productivity.
9) This device has completely changed
the way we cook our food.

I’m very glad to tell you that it was a great idea.
2)We are arriving in Prague by plane and the
guide will meet us at the airport.
3)Then we’ll be taken to the hotels by bus to get
accommodated and have a short rest.
4)The hotel is situated not far from the centre, in
an old and beautiful building.
5)Though it’s not surprising — all buildings are
beautiful in Prague. 6) I’ll live in a double suite
with my classmate. 7) There will be a bathroom
in the suite. 8)Breakfast and supper are included
so we’ll have to eat at the hotel café.
9)But to tell the truth, there are lots of cosy cafés
in the streets of the city. 10)Dinner is not included
as we’ll have excursions almost every day and
we’ll have to have dinner somewhere in the
centre of the city. 11)Breakfast is a traditional
continental breakfast, the buffet.
14)As for the facilities, there are all modern
conveniences in the hotel.

4)Room decorating is much more complicated than
people may think. 4)There are a lot of steps
in making your room perfect. 5)They’re
basic furnishing, shapes, colours and, of course, style.
6)My room is spacious enough and I have tried to do
my best to make it comfortable and relaxing.
7)I don’t like bright colours, so I have my walls
painted in pastel shades. 8)You may say it is boring
but I disagree. 9)Unlike many girls (I could see it
on TV) I don’t like pink or rose-coloured rooms,
as I consider them too sugary.
10)I don’t have much furniture in my room, there is
only a bed, several bookshelves, as Ilike printed
books, not electronic ones, a chair, a desk, and a
wardrobe for my clothes.11)When I was thinking
about my room atmosphere, I decided to make it
calm and friendly. 12)And I always wanted to make
my room green. 13)Houseplants brighten
our houses up and, besides, make the air in
the room clearer.
19)In my opinion it is very important to have
your own style,
and especially in the place where you live.

4)The climate of Ukraine is determined by its
geographical location. Ukraine’s territory lies
in the temperate belt and its climate is
temperately continental, only the southern
coast of the Crimea is subtropical. The
characteristic features of the climate are higher
summer temperatures, lower winter temperatures
, and rare rainfalls. The Ukrainian climate has
considerable fluctuation in weather conditions
from year to year. Alongside very wet years
there can be droughts, and alongside cold years
there are warm years. Crimean mountains
obstruct the movement of cold Arctic air to the
coast and create conditions for one of the best
resort areas in Ukraine. The average yearly
temperature in Ukraine varies between +5..+7 C
in the north and +11..+13 C in the south. January
is the coldest month and July is the hottest one.
In general Ukraine can be divided into four
different climatic regions: cool snow forest
climate, steppe climate, Mediterranean
climate and mountain tundra climate.

3)Dear Mum!
It’s so nice to live here, in this family.
They are very friendly and interesting
people. They are always ready to help.
I have a room on the first floor of their big
house that is in the suburbs of London.
My room is light and spacious. I like it very
much. When I have some free time, I play
football with the youngest boy in the family,
who is the same age as me. We also walk a
lot and spend some time talking or playing
computer games.I miss you much.
Hope to see you daughter,Ann
4) There aren’t completely perfect people and
everybody has weak sides. 5)These weak
sides don’t matter to true friends. 6)But it
is very hard to find such true friends.
7)There were some people I thought to be
my best friends, but in fact I was
disappointed with them and felt very upset.
8)Fortunately, I have found my true friend.
9)We are completely different in tempers

3)Nikolaev Zoo has one of the largest
collections of animals in Ukraine. Currently
the collection consists of more than 400
species and more than 3000 specimen of
animals, of which about 80 species are listed
in the International Red Book. The zoo has more
than 50 species of animals, which in Ukraine can
be only found in Nikolaev. In 1978 the sculpture
"Mowgli and Bagheera" was established on the
square in front of the zoo. It became the emblem
of the zoo. The author of the sculptural group is
Inna Makushina. The zoo has its own flag.
The zoo is located at the beginning of
Oktyabrskiy Prospect, not far from the
Intercity Bus Terminal. I invite you to visit
the zoo in Mykolaiv.
4) I think children should listen to their parents
advice. 2)As parents are the people who want
their children to be happy and make no mistakes.
3)Parents have big life experience and they
always know what to do
in different situations. 6)Parents have already
gone through what their children are experiencing
so they know what the pitfalls are.
7)They’re not going to let a young person fall
into the same traps and help to solve the problem
they see you’re having.
8)As for me, I usually ask for my parents’ and
grandparents’ advice. 9)They are very wise and
experienced enough to tell me the best way
out of my problems. 10)Sure I will not ask the
older generation about the new technologies
or the latest fashion. 11)But there are things
that are never out of time. 12)I mean love and
care, and friendship. 14)I hope everybody has
the same understanding with their parents

4) I am going to tell you about my school. My
school is new and modern and I like it very much.
It has three floors. The classrooms are light and
spacious. There are classrooms for different subjects,
such as English, History, Physics, Mathematics,
Chemistry, Geography, Biology Literature etc. There
is a computer class in our school. The computer class
has the most modern equipment and the Internet
access. In our school we have also painting group,
dance group, theatre group and rock group. All these
groups are very popular and many pupils attend them.
There is a good tradition in our school. Every year people
who graduated our school come here to meet their
teachers and classmates. These meetings take place
every first Saturday of February.I think that school years
are very important for every person. It’s a period of
becoming adult, achieving knowledges, and choosing your
way in life. Often school friends remain your friends for all
your life. So I’ll never forget my school, my teachers,
and my classmates.

3)Hi Jane,
I have just returned from an exhibition of
stone art held in our city exhibition centre.
I must say, I am really impressed. There
are many smart installations of stones of
different origin and contents: from gems to
pebbles. The designers worked miracles!
I could have never thought that it is pos-
sible to make a beautiful wall mirror from
a plate of a finely polished stone! Well, it
is impossible to express it in words.
You must come and see it. 8)It is an order!
See you soon. Ira
4) People have always polluted their
surroundings. But until now pollution was
not such a serious problem. In past most
people lived in uncrowded rural areas and
didn’t have pollution-causing machines.
Using automobiles and other machines
made pollution steadily worse.
Air, water, and soil are necessary for
existence of all living things. But polluted
air can cause illness, and even death.
Polluted water kills fish and other marine
life. On polluted soil, food products can’t
be grown. In addition environmental
pollution spoils the natural beauty of our
planet. But pollution can be reduced gradually.
Scientists and engineers can find the ways to
reduce pollution from automobiles and factories.
Government can pass the laws that would make
enterprises take measures for reducing of pollution.
Individuals and groups of people can work
together to persuade enterprises to stop
polluting environment.
