TRAVELLING

It is obvious that from time to time we should leave the place where we live or work for a while to change the scenery, because we get tired from the same surrounding and daily routine. Hence, some relaxation is an essential thing to restore our physical and mental resources. And the best way of relaxation is to go to a place, where you have never been before.

People began to travel ages ago. The very first travelers were explorers who went on trips to find wealth, fame or something else. Their journeys were very dangerous but still people keep on going to the unknown lands. Nowadays there are a lot of companies, which can organize your tour, or voyage wherever you like. They will take care about your tickets and make all the reservations needed. If you don't speak the language of the country you'll be given interpreters. With modern services you can go around the world choosing any means of transport you like: plain, train, ship, bicycle or you can travel hiking.

With a train you have speed, comfort and pleasure combined. From the comfortable seat of a railway carriage you have a splendid view of the whole countryside. If you are hungry, you can have a meal in the dining-car; and if a journey is a long one you can have a wonderful bed in a sleeper.

Travelling by ship is also very popular now. It is very pleasant to feel the deckof the ship under the feet, to see the rise and fall of the waves, to feel the fresh sea wind blowing in the face and hear the cry of the seagulls.

Many people like to travel by car. It is interesting too, because you can see many sights in a short time, you can stop when and where you like, you do not have to buy tickets or carry your suitcases.

A very popular means of travelling is hiking. It is travelling on foot. Walking tours are very interesting. Hitch-hiking is a very popular method of travelling among young people. But it is not as popular in our country as abroad.

Those who live in the country like to go to a big city and spend their time visiting museums and art galleries, looking at shop windows and dining at exotic restaurants. City residents usually like a quiet holiday by the sea and in the mountains with nothing to do but walk and bathe and lay in the sun. Most travelers and holiday-makers take a camera with them and take pictures of everything that interest them - the sights of a city, old churches and castles, views of mountains, lakes, valleys, plains, waterfalls, forests, different kinds of trees, flowers and plants, animals and birds.

Traveling is a nice hobby and a great thing if you want to know more about the world and certainly if you are studying a foreign language. And it doesn’t matter which way of travel you will choose. You will have a lot of good memories for all your life!

Mr and Mrs Williams had always spent their summer holidays in England in the past, in a small boarding-houseat the seaside. One year, however, Mr Williams made a lot of money in his business, so they decided to go to Rome and stay at a really good hotel while they went around and saw the sightsof the famous city.

They flew to Rome, and arrived at their hotel late one evening. They expected that they would have to go to bed hungry, because in the boarding-houses they had been used to in the past, no meals were served after seven o’clock in the evening. They were thereforesurprised when the clerkwho received them in the hall of the hotel asked them whetherthey would be taking dinner there that night.

“Are you still serving dinner then?” asked Mrs Williams.

“Yes, certainly, madam,” answered the clerk. “We serve it until half-past nine.”

“What are the times of meals then?” asked Mr Williams.

“Well, sir,” answered the clerk, “we serve breakfast from seven to half-past eleven in the morning, lunch from twelve to three in the afternoon, tea from four to five, and dinner from six to half-past nine.”

“But that hardlyleaves any time for us to see the sights of Rome!” said Mrs Williams in a disappointed voice.
