Love that is Betrayed has no Rebate

Love is the greatest feeling in the world. In fact, true love raises a man to make unbelievable and brave things. In contrast, the false love may destroy the whole World. The honest feeling makes everyone better, kinder, wiser, and noble. Hundreds of philosophes try to explain that feeling, but it can?t be logically explained. Top poets and writers describe that emotion, and how it strengthens, or how it kills people of any age, of any social class, and of any nationality. The betrayed love may destroy people?s lives and souls.

Oscar Wild describes a few romantic relations in one of the world?s masterpiece, the novel ?The Picture of Dorian Gray?. He describes the difference between social classes, and how they fall in love differently. In my essay, I?m going to define the relationships between Dorian and Sybil. The three most important points here are: the first meeting and the start of their love story, the continuation and the progress of their relation, and Dorian?s betrayal of Sybil?s love.

First, ?love is unpredictable.? We come to know how the author described the first meeting of the protagonist and the young actress. Dorian came across an absurd little theatre in search of the interesting new adventure. When he started to watch the performance, he saw a beautiful young girl. It was Sybil Vane. She was playing like a genius. The protagonist was fascinated with ?her little flower-like face?. Dorian?s love was sincere, innocent and sacred. To illustrate, he said, ?She is everything to me in life.? Lord Henry didn?t approve it. He tried to corrupt young man. He told that ?it was only the first romance of his life.? (p. 73) Although, Dorian didn?t approve Harry?s idea. He told, ?Sybil is the only thing I care about.? (p. 74) To sum, her love made him better. That was true love.

Second, ?love is in the eye of the beholder?. In the following chapters, the author defined how their love progressed. Dorian wanted to marry Sybil, but his friends didn?t understand his feelings. Basil was totally surprised about that news. He told to Lord Henry that ?it was absurd for Dorian to marry a person so much beneath him?. (p. 73) Fortunately, he hoped that Sybil was a good girl. Also, he hoped she would not degrade Dorian?s nature and intellect. He understood the protagonist?s feelings. On the contrary, Lord Henry was absolutely corrupted. He didn?t trust in the true love. The protagonist proposed to his friends to come to the theatre, and to see how Sybil played. He was sure that she played perfectly Juliet?s character. Dorian said that she was a born artist. He said, ?I love Sybil. I want to place her on the pedestal of gold and to see the world worship the woman who is mine.? (p. 75)

The next episode described the small Jewish theater. It was crowed when they arrived, everyone was waiting to see beautiful Sybil. The viewers were common, rough people, with the coarse faces and the brutal gestures, but, when she was on the stage, they became completely different. She spiritualized them. It was like a magic. The painter portrayed her saying, ?This girl can give a soul to those who lived without one, if she can create the sense of beauty in people whose lives have been sordid and ugly.? (p. 78) Dorian fell completely in love with her talent.

Third, ?love that is betrayed has no rebate.? Lately, the writer narrated the Sybil?s performance. She played wholly different than the day before. She played indifferently because she understood that all around her was fake. Before, the painted scenes were her world, but, now, she saw that they were not real. The author narrated that: ?Sybil became conscious that orchard was false, that the scenery was vulgar, and that the words she had to speak were unreal, were not her words, were not what she wanted to say.? (p. 80) After she met Dorian, she knew how real love looked.

Lord Henry was ?curiously listless?, and he didn?t ?show sign of joy?. He said that Sybil was quite beautiful, but she could not act. In contrast, Basil tried to support Dorian, and he told, ?I should think Miss Vane was ill.? The next episode described the changing of Dorian?s feeling. He was feeling puzzled and anxious. Sybil was absolutely incompetent in acting. The protagonist didn?t understand what has been happened. He was negatively surprised by the diverse Sybil?s playing. He was horribly disappointed. Dorian was very cruel and told that he wished she was ill, because, this evening, she was ?merely commonplace?, and she played like ?mediocre actress?. He didn?t understand how her feeling was sincere. Dorian?s love wasn?t real. He told to Sybil that he didn?t want to marry her anymore, and that her horrible performance ruined his love.

Unfortunately, his feelings were not real. Dorian fell in love with characters she played and with her talent, but not with real Sybil. Dorian?s decision destroyed Sybil?s life and his soul. The young actress killed herself. When Dorian arrived at home, he saw that the portrait was changed. His face wasn?t so beautiful and tender like before. At this moment, he understood how his action was awful. The next morning, he wanted to write a sorry letter to Sybil, but it was too late. She has committed a suicide. Dorian?s soul was destroyed, and his first love was devastated. The portrait was a mirror of Dorian?s changes. In my conclusion, Dorian?s biggest mistake was to make decision only by himself and, in consequent, to ruin their relationship that made himself better.

I think that every love story is created by our choices and decisions. No love story is perfect, and not everyone has a happy end. There always are o lot of complications and problems. It is very important to solve these problems together. It is necessary to explain what we feel if we want to be understood. So, speaking a lot is the best way to reach a mutual rapport. When we understand our wife or husband perfectly, we accept her or him imperfection, and we boast of their achievements. We can say that we really love. In this point, real love is our power, in contrast, betrayed love makes us weak. Lao Tzu said: ?Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage.? Everyone has to be open for new feeling because we never know which one is our biggest love story, we have to fight for our love.
