re: Parrett Scholarship Foundation

Dear Mrs. Buechler:

I am writing to request consideration for the Parrett Scholarship offered by The Parrett Scholarship Foundation. I believe I meet all of the qualifications as specified by the foundation.

I am presently a first-year student atBrown MedicalSchoolin Providence, Rhode Island. Igraduated from Amherst College in2005withabachelorofartsdegreecum laudein Biochemistry. My career goal at this point is to be a primary care physician in a community-based hospital similarto the one where I volunteered

during my college years.I hopeto serve a multicultural patient population andspecifically provide preventive care to adolescents and women. Since enrolling at Brown, I have participatedinthe Adolescent Health Education Project in which groups ofmedical students visit local high schools and community centers once a week to discuss health issues with teenagers. Our topics include AIDS,alcohol and drugs, sexuality, teen pregnancy and peerpressure.

Medicalschool at Brown bringswith it an averageannual cost of $55,730. While I am receiving somescholarship assistance, I am also borrowing from several student loan programs in order to cover my tuition and living expenses. Without additional scholarship assistance, my financial aid officer and I estimate that my educational debt at graduation will reachapproximately $xxx (see attached debt profile). My parentsare nearing retirement and will soon be living on a fixed income. They earn approximately $xxx per year andthus are able to provide only minimalsupport to my brother(who is in his second year oflaw school) and me. I am concerned that my mounting educational debt will preclude me from considering lower-paying primary care specialties such as familypractice and pediatrics.

I would be happy to provide any additional information (e.g., transcripts, lettersof recommendation, tax returns, etc.) that your committee would like to review. I am also available for an interview at your convenience. If you require an application form, I would appreciate it if you would send one to me at the address listed above.

Thank you in advance for your consideration.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

M.T. Pockets

Dear Ms. Jones,

Thank you for applying for a position with our company. After careful consideration, however, we have decided not to make you an offer at this time.

We received applications from a large number of extremely qualified applicants. Unfortunately, while your qualifications were excellent, we were looking for someone with more experience. We hope you will again apply for a position with our company after you have acquired more experience.

ShannonMarchant

AdmissionsOfficer

University of Texas Medical Branch

Department of Occupational Therapy

301 University Blvd. Galveston, TX 77555

Dear Ms. Marchant:

I have been asked to provide my assessment of Karen Strange in support ofher application to yourOccupational Therapy program. As requested in your guidelines, I am submitting this to you directly without the intervention of the applicant.

I have had the pleasure of knowing Karen Strange for approximately three years. During that time she hasworked for me as both my Personal Assistant and inparallel with that, as Manager of the Insurance and Shipping departments at KranstonCollectibles Inc. Asmyassistant, she is required to perform numerous administrative tasks, as wellas dealing with customersand supervising the company’s rare objects inventory. In her shipping management job, Ms. Strangeis responsible for carefully insuring and shipping expensive rare object shipments. In performing these jobs, she has consistently demonstrated that she is a well-organized, efficient, reliable, and responsible individual.

Ms. Strange has demonstrated numerous strengths that I believe will support her in a career as an Occupational Therapist. She is a highly dedicated employee whois able to workunderextreme pressure and tight deadlines with calmness and composure. She has the ability to focus on a task and follow it through diligently until it is properly completed. Her level ofintegrity is beyond reproach. Working in the rare objects businesssheunderstands how important it is torespect the privacy of her clients, an attributethat I am sure will also be helpful when dealing with clients in the fieldofOccupationalTherapy. Karen is always punctual and hasexcellentcomputerand verbal communication skills. She is well-respected by both her clients and co-workers and is known for her strongleadership skills. Ms. Strange also has an outstanding ability to dealwith different types of people and customers on a one-to-one basis, and she alsoworks well in group situations.

As detailed above, I believe that Karen Strange is an exceptional employee who exceeds expectations injust about everyarea imaginable. She ishighly motivated, constantly striving to get better. For example, the one area where she needed some improvement was in her written communication skills. So on her own, she registered in college and has been taking evening courses toimprove her writing skills. In my opinion, Karen’s work ethic, coupled with her ongoing efforts towards self-improvement, give her unlimitedpotential in justaboutanyfield she may choose, includingOccupational Therapy.

Ms. Strange also has excellent interpersonal skills. On a regular basis she was required to interact withmanagement, co-workers and those reporting to her and always did so with tact and diplomacy. Whetherit wascollaboration on a project, a presentation, or a rare objects show, in each circumstance, her style ofrelating to her peers and her interpersonal skills in general wereexceptional. Sarah is a kind, warmhearted, and generous individual who has the intuitive ability to deal effectively with a wide variety of people and situations. She also has the capacity to leadand take charge of a group. On the other hand, she hasno problem stepping into the background and working effectively from there when it is the best approach for a particular situation. Above all, Karen Strange is highly respected, admired and liked by her peers and is therefore a pleasure to work with.

Accordingly, without reservation, I am pleased to be able to recommend Karen Strange as someonewho I believe will be an excellent addition to yourOccupationalTherapy program. Please feel free to contact me by phone at xxx-xxx-xxxx if you require any further information.

Dear Mr. Knight,

Please accept my enthusiastic application to work as a cashier at the Pink Creamery Ice Cream Shop. I would love the opportunity to be a hardworking employee at your establishment. I believe my excellent customer service and leadership abilities would make me an ideal employee.

Your advertisement specifies that you require an employee who is comfortable working in customer service. As a cashier at a grocery store for three years, I have experience providing friendly service to customers even during the busiest hours of service. As a member of my university’s entertainment committee, I have gained further experience in customer service, making arrangements and providing accommodations for a variety of artists and other performers. I am always ready with a smile and a helping hand for any customer.

Finally, you state that employees must be leaders, capable of running the cash register alone for periods of time. I have extensive leadership experience; I have run meetings for my high school’s literary magazine as literary editor, and I served as my track team’s captain. Both positions required making difficult decisions during stressful times; for example, when a team member was injured right before a race, the track coach and I had to decide who would take her place. As literary editor, I also had to make every last-minute decision about the organization of our magazine. I am confident that I can handle stressful situations and make important decisions while working as a cashier for your store.

I am therefore certain that my customer service abilities and leadership skills are just the qualities you are looking for at the Pink Creamery Ice Cream Shop. I have enclosed my resume, and will call within the next week to see if we might arrange a time to speak together. Thank you so much for your time and consideration.

I am interested in the assistant position advertised in XXX. I am currently employed as Legislative Director for Assemblywoman XXXX, Chairperson of the NYS Assembly XXX. I accepted this position because of the emphasis on the writing and research skills which are applicable to your requirements for an author’s assistant. I also have extensive experience in legal and policy research.

In my position as Legislative Director for Ms. XXX, I prepare her personal legislation which deals with issues relative to her position as Senior Member of the NYS Assembly Standing Committee on XXXX. In as much as she is Chairperson of the XXX Committee I am, of course, heavily involved in the current welfare and Medicaid reform movement.

In response to your search for an assistant, I believe my experience in the Legislature, and my research and writing skills qualify me for consideration. If you would like, I can provide you with current samples of my work.

Dear Mr. Smith:

Jane Doe was employed by ABC Company for a period of five years. I was her supervisor during the last four years of her employment. During the time that Jane and I worked together, I found her to be very efficient and helpful. I could always count on Jane to pitch in where needed, often with very little notice. While Jane was employed by ABC Company, she completely reorganized our filing system. Both management and fellow employees have commented on how the updated filing system has made it easier to find documents when needed. Jane would be a valuable addition to any company she chooses to join, and I have no hesitation in recommending her highly.   Sincerely, Edward Jones EdwardJones, MarketingManager

Dear Mr. Barrel.

I am pleased to write this letter of recommendation for Anthony Jones. Mr. Jones worked for me until two years ago. I was his direct supervisor at Marc Technologies from 2007-2009.

During his employment at the company, Mr. Jones went from a junior trainee to a program technician. He left our company to move on to another career elsewhere but always kept in touch.

Mr. Jones is a hard-working individual who knows how to get the job done quickly and effectively. He works well as a part of a team and can function as a leader when required. He has always exhibited superior communication skills and gets along well with staff and supervisors. He is highly respected by colleagues, customers and management.

Dear Mr. Tiller

I have worked with Leticia Adams for more than a year during her internship in our marketing department. She has demonstrated wonderful initiative and a positive attitude. Both qualities have made her a valuable member of our team. It is with pride that I recommend her for your marketing associate position.

In addition to her general duties, Leticia revamped our dual database system to better facilitate advertising billing and measure effectiveness. She also identified a need for a stronger press release circulation system, researched the options and created a persuasive proposal that convinced the president of our organization to find the funds for the project. Leticia rarely had an idle moment - she always found some way to make things go more smoothly and did it all with a smile. We will sincerely miss her.

Leticia's attitude, application of effort and innovative spirit will be strong assets to your company. Please do not hesitate to call me if you'd like more information about this recommendation.

Dear Mr. Winner

I have been a close friend and business associate of Alonzo Garcia for more than four years. We've worked together and planned activities on such volunteer projects as our employer's United Way Campaign, the ALS Walk for Hope and the Everybody Wins reading mentorship program.

Alonzo has a generous spirit and is a loyal, positive individual. He's also the "go-to" guy in our office; people continually turn to him for extra help both personally and professionally. His strong work ethic has helped him achieve a number of successes in his career, but he still makes time to take his grandmother to dinner every Sunday, saying she's the reason he remembers "where he came from." That's a quality I've always admired. I trust him impeccably because frankly, he's never let me down. We also laugh together- a lot!

For all these reasons, I highly recommend Alonzo for the Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring program. Please call me if you need more information.

Mr. Roberto Villas

Manager, Marketing Services

Allied Industries Inc.

110 Riverbend Drive, Suite 1550

Stamford, CT 06907

Dear Mr. Villas:

This is in response to your recent request for a letter of recommendation for Maria Fuentas who worked for me up until two years ago.

Maria Fuentas worked under my direct supervision at Johnson Technologies for a period of six years ending in October 2003. During that period, I had the great pleasure of seeing her blossom from a junior marketing trainee at the beginning, into a fully functioning Marketing, Program Co-Ordinator, in her final two years with the company. That was the last position she held before moving on to a better career opportunity elsewhere.

Maria is a hard-working self-starter who invariably understands exactly what a project is all about from the outset, and how to get it done quickly and effectively. During her two years in the Marketing Co-Ordinator position, I cannot remember an instance in which she missed a major deadline. She often brought projects in below budget, and a few were even completed ahead of schedule.

Ms. Fuentas is a resourceful, creative, and solution-oriented person who was frequently able to come up with new and innovative approaches to her assigned projects. She functioned well as a team leader when required, and she also worked effectively as a team member under the direction of other team leaders.

On the interpersonal side, Maria has superior written and verbal communication skills. She gets along extremely well with staff under her supervision, as well as colleagues at her own level. She is highly respected, as both a person and a professional, by colleagues, employees, suppliers, and customers alike.

Two years ago, when Ms. Fuentas announced her resignation to take up a new position with a larger company, we were saddened to see her leave, although we wished her the greatest success in her new undertaking. Even now, two years after her departure, I can state that her presence, both as a person and as an exemplary employee, is still missed here.

In closing, as detailed above, based on my experience working with her, I can unreservedly recommend Maria Fuentas to you for any intermediate or senior marketing position. If you would like further elaboration, feel free to call me at (416) 765-4497.

Sincerely,

We wish to investigate the influence of particle additions on the polypeptide crystal structure. Meanwhile, we have started collecting literature along these lines. With this purpose in view we are writing to inquire whether you are able to supply us with a list of references or with any information you have on hand.

Perhaps you can also mention some other prominent researchers engaged in the same experiment to whom I may turn with the same inquiry.

Dear Professor Parker:

It was a great pleasure to receive your letter of August 3, 20... in which you request me to supply you with a list of references and data which we have at our disposal.

As far as the reference list is concerned I shall be delighted to send it to you — I believe by the end of the week. With regard to the experimental data I must, with regret, apologize that we are unable to supply you with this information since our data are only preliminary and require verification. We are looking forward to the publication of our paper in Biophysics and I shall be very glad to send you a reprint together with its English translation as soon as it appears.

In your letter you suggest establishing scientific co-operation through the exchange of data and information. We wholeheartedly support this idea of yours and are willing to share with you what material we have available in our laboratory. I am sending you under separate cover two reprints which, in my opinion, would be of interest to you. Moreover, we should like to suggest an exchange of visits of scientists to both countries. Also an exchange of literature would be desirable.

I trust the reference list is just the thing you need and will be of help to you. If I can be of further assistance, please write to me. With best wishes.

Dear Mr Miles,

I have today received your package containing four lawnmower blades that you state to be faulty I understand from your letter that these were found unsuitable on delivery and are being returned for refund. However, close inspection of the blades indicates that they have been used on at least one occasion, and the damage appears to have resulted from running the machine into concrete, or a similar compound, as traces of this can be seen on the cutting edge.

For this reason, we are unable to offer a refund, as the damage was not present when the goods left these premises.

If you have any further comments on this matter, or wish us to return the blades to you, please write to this department, quoting the reference above, within the next 30 days. If we do not hear from you by this date, the goods will be disposed of.

Yours sincerely,

Harry Treen

Dear Mr Bull,

I very much regret having to write this letter. However, despite numerous verbal and two written warnings you have continued to arrive late at work. In addition, you have been insolent to your department manager Mr Davies on a number of occasions when he has reminded you about your timekeeping.

The company feels that you have been given sufficient time to mend your ways or to sort out any problems you may have had relating to this, and I am afraid I now have no alternative but to give you four weeks notice of termination of employment with this company.

Yours sincerely,

N Chatterton
