History of Our Victories

The first official biathlon Championship of USSR among women was held in 1983. V. Chernysheva, L. Zabolotnaya, E. Golovina, S. Davydova became the first champions of the country.

Women's biathlon was recognized at the World Championship in Chamonix. The first champion of the world became the Soviet sportswoman Venera Chernysheva. The first Soviet Olympic Champion in biathlon—the most difficult kind of Winter Olympics became Vladimir Melanin in 1964 (Innsbruck).

The Soviet biathletes kept golden traditions in relay for six Olympics, beginning with 1968. Such sport achievement will remain a record in the chronicle of World biathlon of the 20th century.

The achievements of Soviet and Russian biathletes within the period of 40 years became the pride of the national and world sports.

 

 

Modern Sports

Biathlon is a winter double event ski race on a fixed distance in a combination with shooting in a lying and standing position on fire line. A specific feather of biathlon is a combination at 2 different kinds of sports—ski racing and shooting in one sport competition.

10 sets of medals are played in this kind of sport.

Russia has won 45 medals, Germany—43 and Norway—29 medals.

 

 

Famous sportsmen

Olga Zaitseva

Olga Alekseevna Zaitseva was born in Moscow on May, 16, 1978. Olga began practising ski races in 1987 under the leadership of her teacher—the coach Svetlana Vjacheslavovna Nesterova

Thanks to her hard work in 1996 Olga became a member of the Junior Team of the country and won a silver medal in the World Junior Championship. Next year she becomes the champion in a team race.

In 2000 Zaitseva is awarded the rank of a Master of sports of the International class and she make a debut in the Europe Cup. By V.V. Putin presidential Decree Olga Zaitseva is awarded with a medal of the order “For Merits to the Fatherland”, second class.

 

 

In 2005 she begins to play for CSKA, she gains the title “Honored Master of Sports”. In February 2006 Zaitseva becomes the Olympic Champion in relay race in Turin.

As a result, in January 2010 Zajka became the best sportswomen in the project “Golden pedestal”.

Olga was also awarded by the Ministry of Sports as the best sportswomen of the year in Winter Olympic kinds of sports.

 

Evgenij Ustjugov

Evgenij Romanovich Ustjugov was born in June 4, 1985, Krasnojarsk.

The Russian biathlete, a Master of Sports, began to practice biathlon in 1997.He won 2 gold and 1 silver medal at the European Junior Championship in 2006.In the same year he became the Champion of Europe among adults in the relay race. He won the individual race at Izhevsk rifle in 2008 and after that he became a member of combined team of Russia. He made a debut at the World Cur 2008/09 in Oberhof in the relay race, where he took the 2nd place.

E. Ustjugov is an Olympic mass start Champion of 2010, a bronze medalist of Olympic Games in relay race in 2010. He won a silver medal in the European Championship in 2009.
