Makeup eyeshadow is the most powerful product you will ever use on your face. It can make your eyes look smaller, bigger, close together or far apart. I firmly believe that it will make or break your look, so it's very important to know what you're doing.
Remember the old saying, "The eyes are the windows to the soul". You want others to be attracted to your eyes by making them look refreshed and sophisticated. Remember to incorporate thorough application that doesn't leave cakey results.
Some good tips to keep in mind: Shimmer can give you a playful look, dark eyeshadows provide for a dramatic look, and sheer shadows are great for a soft and a romantic look. Choose your colors based on your outfit, mood and personality. If you want to choose everyday makeup eyeshadows to place emphasis on your eye color, then try this:
◈Blue eyes: Taupe, gray, violet, lavender, camel, lilac, purple and deep blue colors will make your eyes appear bluer than they really are. ◈Green/Hazel eyes: Brown, apricot, purple, lavender, deep mauve, pink, brownish-pink, salmon, plum and forest green colors will make your eyes appear more vibrant and alive. ◈Brown eyes: Copper, bronze, blue, purple, gold, burnt orange, gray, champagne, beige and forest-green looks great. Other that that, if you have brown eyes, you look good in any color.
◈Sheer: Upon applying, it provides only a tint of color to the eyelid, so don't be fooled by the color in the packaging. It's practically see-through, but is excellent if you want color without going all out. If you want asubtle-but-sophisticated look, apply a sheer eyeshadow all over the lower lid and a deeper neutral color in the crease and blend. Excellent for all skin types.
◈Shimmer: Do you want sexier eyes? Go for the shimmer! It's also a must-have if you want a playful twinkly look. If you want to awaken tired eyes, use colors like champagne, pearl or gold by swiping all over the lid and dotting a little bit around the outside of your tear ducts. I love this look!
If your eyelids tend to get oily during the day, use a water-resistant cream shadow base before applying shimmer makeup eyeshadow. This cream base will keep your lids dry and hold the color in place all day. This is one of my cosmetic must-haves! I don't recommend it if you havemature eyes because it settles into fine lines, thus placing emphasis on those lines. Excellent for all skin types.
◈Cream: This is perfect if you want a more shiny-glossy look. Cream shadows come in a variety of colors, but make sure you keep the container tightly closed after each use, or it will dry out pretty quickly. It's very convenient because you can just dab it on with your finger and blend out. Because this formula has a creamy texture, you may find that it tends to gather in your crease during the day.
Because of that, I recommend cream shadows if you have normal to dry skin. Don't use it if you have oily skin, because the oil from your eyelids will cause it to crease even more.
◈Matte: These shadows are highly pigmented, and are typically used if you want very strong no-holds-barred color. If you're going out on the town and want a dramatic look, apply a charcoal or navy color over the entire lid, and blend in the crease. Mattes come in a variety of colors, more so than any other type. It's a good idea to dust on a bit of sheer powder over the lids first so the shadow won't stick to oily spots and cause smears. Excellent for all skin types.
◈Liquid: Creates a "wet" or shimmering appearance and works well as a base for powdered eyeshadow. Liquid shadows aren't as easy to find, so the color range is limited. They are a lot like the cream version in that they're pretty convenient to wear, and tend to gather in the crease if you have oily skin. Because of that, I recommend liquid shadows if you have normal to dry skin, and not oily.
