Suggestions for Writing Research Papers
(a) Find as much relevant material as you can from books, periodicals, journals, etc. (Check the table of contents and index.). Make notes as you read, using headings and subheadings and putting direct quotations in quotation marks.
(b) Make a careful plan of your main line of argument or ideas, organizing your material in a logical sequence. Avoid vagueness, wordiness, and sweeping generalizations; instead, develop your ideas clearly and fully, supporting them with evidence.
(c) Acknowledge your sources either by reference to the author/ work or by direct quotation. This can be done either within the text or in footnotes, for which you should use a numbering system in the text and give the source at the bottom of the page or at the end of the chapter. Add a bibliography at the end, listing all works used or quoted from.
