LOCATION: SVATENI is a place where the sky is holding the earth with towers. The mythological western province of Georgia, land of the “Golden Fleece” lies high up in the Greater Caucasus. The Svans are usually identified with the Soanes mentioned by Greek geographer Strabo. The most important characteristic of Svaneti is the stone towers in the mountain villages. Svaneti is also called “The country of one thousand towers”. After fixing round and reconstructions around, Svaneti became top destination for tourists. www.svanetitrekking.ge; wikitravel.org/en/Svaneti.

MOTIVATION: During the centuries this place was historical open-air museum. Modernity has brought new infrastructure and the flow of tourists, because of that this place needs special care and cleaning.

According to statistics, the number of tourists increased by thirty percent since 2008 by the year, which is the reason for increasing the modern garbage (plastic bags and bottles).

ACCOMMODATION: At present the towers are not inhabited, but serve the adjoining stone houses as kitchens or ovens. Two – storey house with 2 bedrooms (hostel type dorms), a big kitchen, a bathroom (inside and outside the house), hot water, friendly host, TV (with satellite).

FOOD: Will be provided three times a day. The volunteers will taste many Georgian national dishes (incl. a special kind of cheese), and will cook Georgian national cuisine “hachapuri”, “kubdari” and “khinkali”, traditional salt “svanuri marili”, also there will be available many fruits vegetables and greens.

WORK: Physical works activities of clearing of mountain areas and tourist trails, and remark trekking signs.

WHAT TO BRING: You can bring your sleep bags and “mountain shoes”, photo/video camera.

You will need some kind of working clothes for the camp activities.

LEISURE TIME: Camp leaders will organize free time with the participants: excursions and great sightseeing’s, ecotourism astride, panorama /views. The volunteers will have the opportunity to visit a lot of historical monuments, ancient churches and monasteries.

LANGUAGE: English / Russian / Georgian.

THE LIMITATION OF THE PROGRAM: minimal 5 - maximal 10 persons.

AGE: 19-28.

PARTICIPATION FEE: 250, 00 EURO. Participation fee is to be paid upon arrival.

HOW TO GET TO SVANETI: Road until Mestia was constructed in 2011, so to get there is very easy. There is a three opportunities to get there: From Tbilisi – by mini bus, every day at 6.00 am, needs 9h, 20 $ per person. By train until Zugdidi – every night at 11.00 pm needs 7h, 12 $ per person and from Zugdidi to Mestia – by mini bus 15 $ per person needs 3h. From Kutaisi – by mini bus, every day at 9am from the Kutaisi international airport, 15 $ per person needs 5h. From Batumi by mini bus, every day from the central bus station at 8am, 20 $ per person.

 

RTWELI: GATHERING OF GRAPES

 

 

RTVELI (gathering of grapes) is a quite active holiday in Georgia, as lots of people are gathered in Kakheti region every year to participate in it. This East Georgia region still keeps ancient traditional secrets of making vine. Working in this WC you will have an opportunity to take part in most important event in Georgia and in the wine making process (in grape extraction). Georgia is considered to be one of the oldest homelands of viniculture in the world. It is proved that wine-making in Georgia has been practiced since the 3rd millennium BC. For many centuries wine remains one of the fascinating symbols of Georgian history and culture. The vineyard and wine culture is very rich and is based on ancient traditions. Vineyards occupy about 38,000 ha of land. The most famous among them is the Tsinandali factory, which started operation back in 1865. Famous sorts of Georgian wines are Rkatsiteli, Manavi, Napareuli, Tibaani, Tsinandali, Vazisubani, Mukuzani, Saperavi, Kindzmarauli, Khvanchkara, etc.

LOCATION: KAKHETI region is the center of Georgia's wine industry and is situated in the Alazani valley 415 m above sea level and 110 km east of the nation's capital Tbilisi. KVARELI is one of the biggest villages in KAKHETI.

ACCOMMODATION: In the ELISO’s House of Nature Friends in Kvareli: two floor village house with kitchen on the first floor, 3 bedrooms, bathroom and toilet (inside or outside), balcony and two more bedrooms on the second floor.

FOOD: Self cooking (three times a day). The volunteer will have the opportunity to learn how to bake the Georgian bread “puri” also make the cooking course of Georgian cuisine with you camp leader and all will be able to taste the national food: msvadi, khashi, khinkali, khashlama, khachapuri, chakapuli (lemb, beef) and wine brands: tsinandali, mukuzani, kakhuri,kindzmarauli, saperavi and also special taste and aroma of Georgian fruits and vegetables. Each will have the opportunity to prepare one of their national dishes. If you’ll bring your fishing rods, we’ll organize fishing days.

WORK: The volunteers will help in garden- and fieldwork about 4 - 6 hours (6 days a week): help the local community (the elderly, disabled and orphans families) in vineyards and some garden renovation work (depending on the weather condition).

WHAT TO BRING: Sleeping bags are required. You will need some kind of working clothes for the camp activities, hand towel and toothbrush, garden glove, high overshoes (gum boots) and of course photo/video camera. You can also bring your music instruments, CD or DVD with your favorite national songs, music and much enthusiasm and good humor.

LEISURE TIME: The volunteers will have the opportunity to visit a lot of historical monuments, ancient churches and monasteries in in the Kakheti region (Lagodekhi, Telavi, Kakheti, Kvareli Lake, Bodbe). They will also have chance to participate in some activities: parties, different ball plays, fishing and swimming in the river.

LANGUAGE: English / Russian / Georgian.

THE LIMITATION OF THE PROGRAM: minimal 6 - maximal 10 persons.

AGE: 20-99+.

LOCATION: “TEMI CHARITABLE UNION” is situated in GREMI 170 km from capital of Georgia Tbilisi in Kvareli District of KAKHETI. This is one of the most beautiful parts of Georgia. The region is famous for its architectural monuments (about 5000 monuments). The most significant one is the Lagodekhi National Park the natural reserve in Georgia opened in 1912 (it occupies 17 818 h of land of which 12 146 h is covered with woods). UNESCO has listed Lagodekhi National Park among the monuments of worldwide importance.

PROJECT MOTIVATION and SHORT HISTORY of “TEMI CHARITABLE UNION”:

TEMI owns 22 ha of land (incl. 7 ha) for wine yard, which were purchased stepwise with the help of different donors and are cultivated organically. TEMI produce organic wines “Rkatsiteli”, “Saperavi”, and “Khindzmarauli”. In 2012 “Rkatsiteli” was awarded by silver medal on “Tbilisi 5 International Wine Award”. TEMI owns the new building of a greenhouse for organic greens and vegetables (funded by the Embassy of Japan in Georgia).

TEMI was first started as a charity in 1989. There were living 70 persons (from the youngest one year six month till the oldest 75 years old). TEMI community was founded in 1991 (President: Mr. NIKA KVASHALI) and over the years, the family grew to sometimes more than 100 people of different ages and backgrounds who were living and working together. TEMI residents are: • orphans • half orphans • the physically and mentally disabled • the poor • the homeless • the isolated and lonely • the marginalized • single mothers • IDP-s • refuges • the unemployed • disenfranchised and marginalized youth • the elderly and others. TEMI vision is a sustainable Community where people live together safely, with dignity and respect for each other, other human beings and the environment, committed to provide best quality health and social care to its members and to enable them to develop their full potential as individuals and as a group. TEMI aims: I. To provide a safe and stimulating environment in which socially vulnerable people can develop to their full potential. II. To achieve “I” above via social enterprise; developing TEMI’s capacity to earn an income in order to be self-sustainable and to ensure our long-term survival. III. WORK ACTIVITIES: The volunteers will help in garden and in vineyards and some garden renovation work (depending on the weather condition). The normal working hours are 4 – 6 hours a day for 6 days a week. If you are doing a heavy job for a few hours, you can combine it with lighter jobs (such as planting or watering; harvesting and conservation fruits and vegetables, working skills in kitchen, helping with household chores, teaching, organized leisure activities etc). You may also change the combination of tasks during the period of your stay. Day off – Sunday.

ACCOMMODATION: Tent, two-floor house or not completed buildings. 2 Toilets, 2 showers and 1 general toilet are available. Includes 2 rooms for 2 – 6 person. The free places depend on period of time.

FOOD: will be provided three times a day (vegetables, fruits; meet, fish – few days a week).

LEISURE TIME: Participation in celebration of city days “Tbilisoba Festival”. The volunteers will have the opportunity to visit a lot of historical monuments, ancient churches and monasteries. They will also have chance to participate in some activities (parties, fishing and swimming in the river).

WHAT TO BRING: Sleeping bags are required. Warm clothes, hand towel and toothbrush, garden glove, high overshoes (gum boots) and of course photo/video camera. You will need some kind of working clothes for the camp activities. You can also bring your music instruments with you, CD or DVD with your favorite national songs and music.

LOCATION: The WC project “Clean up the Coastline” is located in the beautiful region of Georgia, Adjara (Ajara)– in Kobuleti on the shore of the Black Sea. The camp will take place only 120 m from the marvelous beach. Kobuleti is the regional center of Adjara and is situated 25 km from Batumi and 380 km from Tbilisi.

 

 

ACCOMMODATION: In comfortable 2-floor cottage with an open balcony and a loggia on the 2nd floor. First floor: 5 rooms (4, 6, 3 beds), 1 shower, 1 toilet, 2 kitchens (inside and outside). Second floor: 6 rooms (3, 4, 6 beds), 2 showers and 2 toilets. The cottage is supplied with constant gas, electricity and water. ADDRESS: Rustaweli str. 293 Kobuleti, Adjara.

FOOD: Volunteers will prepare the meals by the given food.

WORK ACTIVITIES: the main purpose of the camp for volunteers is to participate in 4-5 h harvesting of citruses, leasing the beaches and the inshore part of the sea bottom, planting of trees and gardens.

WHAT TO BRING: First of all it is great to bring sleeping bags with you.

LEISURE TIME: Camp leaders will organize free time together with the participants: cultural diversity (excursions in Batumi botanical garden and in the tee factory, café and discotheque). The cottages are endowed with piano, TV-sets, videos and games (domino, cards, chess, nards and lotto).

LANGUAGE: English/Russian/Georgian.

THE LIMITATION OF THE PROGRAM: minimal 5 maximal 10 persons.

AGE: 16-26.

LOCATION: Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, was founded in the 4th century by King Vakhtang Gorgasali on the site of its warm mineral-water springs. Tbilisi is an awe-inspiring city with ancient and fascinating history. PROJECT MOTIVATION AND SHORT HISTORY OF ART GENI FESTIVAL: Festival Art Gene's main goal is to promote and popularize Georgia's traditional folklore, research and gather known and unknown materials of this field and introduce it to the general public, also to archive and preserve those materials for future generations. Festival presents and hosts concerts and events with participants from different parts of Georgia and the world and holds wide verity of traditional arts and crafts exhibitions and sales. Traditionally festival starts in regions of Georgia and continues in Ethnographic Museum of Tbilisi. www.artgeni.ge

WORKING PLACE: The Open Air Museum is located in Tbilisi, Vake district, to the west of "Turtle Lake". It occupies 65 ha of land. The Museum features objects of traditional art and architecture from different parts of Georgia. The Open Air Museum was founded on April 27, 1966 by George Chitaia, a famous Georgian ethnographer and academician, whose name it now bears. Museum exposes 14 ethnographic zones: Khevsureti, Kakheti, Meskheti, Javakheti, Guria, Imereti, Racha, Lechkhumi and Osetia. Each of them presents the particular historic-ethnographic area of Georgia. WORK ACTIVITIES: (5-6 hours per day) the work consists of cleaning out waste and vegetal debris from the territory of Ethnographical museum. Volunteers will work before, during and after the festival together with permanent local (Georgian) volunteers and youth workers who have been supporting the Festival organizers during these years. The technical tasks are: assembly and dismantling the infrastructure of the festival; support the organization of services during the festival; working on stage with bands and meeting and helping set up street entertainers; control access during the festival; During the festival participants will clean out waste and vegetal debris from museum; The volunteers could also take part in festival as they are allowed to present a performance to the audience.

ACCOMMODATION: DARCHEE HOSTEL http://darchee.ge. ADDRESS: Zandukeli str.9, Tbilisi.

FOOD: Will be provided three times a day. The volunteer will have also the opportunity to make one cooking course of Georgian cuisine with a camp leader. You will also get acquainted with Georgian traditional cuisine (“Khachapuri”, “Khinkali”, “Mtsvadi” etc.)

WHAT HAVE TO BRING WITH YOU: working clothes, photo/video camera, traditional food for international evening and of course a good mood. Please take your national clothes.

LEISURE TIME: Camp leaders from LYVG will organize free time with the participants (cultural and excursions in historical places Tbilisi, Mzcheta, Jvari). The volunteers will have an opportunity to attend concerts and other interesting events in Ethnographical Museum during the Festival (it will be free for you).

LOCATION: Turtle Lake is located in Tbilisi on the wooded northern slope of Mtatsminda Mount at elevation of 686.7 m above sea level and fed by a small river Varazis-Khevi, a tributary to the Mtkvari (Kura). The area of surface is 0.034 km², while the catchment area is 0.4 km². Maximal depth is 2.6 m.

PROJECT MOTIVATION AND SHORT HISTORY OF TURTLE LAKE: Turtle Lake is a direct English translation of “Kus Tba”, a small lake at the outskirts of Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, so named due to the perceived abundance of turtles living in these places. The Turtle Lake area is designed as a recreational zone and is frequented by the Tbilisians on weekends. It is also a place where festivals and concerts are held. It could be reached either via a road or an aerial tramway leading from Tbilisi’s Vake Municipality, but it is now defunct. West to the lake is the Open Air Museum of Ethnography, a large exhibition of Georgia’s folk architecture. www.panorama.info-tbilisi.com;www.info-tbilisi.com

WORK ACTIVITIES: (5-6 hours per day) participants will clean out waste and vegetal debris from the territory of “Turtle Lake”; the activities will be the cleaning of banks of lake paths around the lake and sport complex.

ACCOMMODATION: DARCHEE HOSTEL http://darchee.ge. ADDRESS: Zandukeli str.9, Tbilisi.

FOOD: Will be provided three times a day. The volunteer will have also the opportunity to make one cooking course of Georgian cuisine with a camp leader. You will also get acquainted with Georgian traditional cuisine (“Khachapuri”, “Khinkali”, “Mtsvadi” etc.)

WHAT HAVE TO BRING WITH YOU: working clothes, photo/video camera, traditional food for international evening and of course a good mood and motivation.

LEISURE TIME: Camp leaders from LYVG will organize free time with the participants (cultural and excursions in historical places Tbilisi, Mzcheta, Jvari).

LOCATION: The project is situated in the biggest villages of KVARELI District of East Georgia – 110 km from capital of Georgia Tbilisi. This is one of the most beautiful parts of Georgia. The region is famous for about 5000 architectural monuments. The most significant one is the Lagodekhi National Park the natural reserve in Georgia opened in 1912 (it occupies 17 818 h of land of which 12 146 h is covered with woods). UNESCO has listed Lagodekhi National Park among the monuments of worldwide importance.

PROJECT MOTIVATION & WORK: For the youth of our church at the age of 16-18 it has already become a good tradition to connect the biblical, sporting and creative program of our Christian camp “HOPE” with a volunteering activity (6 hours per day). This year it is planned to carry out a social work with disabled children from the neighborhood of KVARELI: crafts, games, reading, plays, sports, walks, entertainment. We need your creative energy and imagination, genuine interest and versatile talents. Thank you, dear young people, for your understanding and cooperation!

ACCOMMODATION: Leisure house of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Georgia (ELKG) in KVARELI with 5 bedroom: can be placed 20 people; two-story beds. Kitchen with two cooks, two entertainment room, small courtyard with table tennis. ADDRESS in TBILISI: Evangelical Lutheran Church of Georgia (ELKG), Terenti-Grauel-Str. 15.

FOOD: Will be provided three times a day.

WHAT TO BRING: You can also bring your music instruments, toys, songs and music and of course good mood and your creativity.

LEISURE TIME: Walk in the woods, to the lake, to the waterfall. The excursions will expose the personal characteristics of each participant – the resilience, strength of mind. The unity and mutual support of the whole group will be tested. A trip also gives us a good opportunity to practice an attentive and cautious relation to nature as God's creation in practice. There is also become acquainted with the ancient Georgian Christian culture.

HOW TO GET TO KAKHETI: Direct flights from the European and Asian countries to Tbilisi National Airport. The minibuses that go to Kvareli are located at the metro U-stations “Ortachala” or “Isani” in Tbilisi. The ticket costs approximately 10,00 Lari (5,00 Euro). Pick up from Tbilisi airport and follow 30,00 Euro (if desired).

LOCATION: TEMI CHARITABLE UNION is situated in GREMI 170 km from capital of Georgia Tbilisi in Kvareli District of KAKHETI. This is one of the most beautiful parts of Georgia. PROJECT MOTIVATION and SHORT HISTORY of “TEMI CHARITABLE UNION”: TEMI was first started as a charity in 1989 to help the socially disadvantaged (orphans; half orphans; the physically and mentally disabled; the poor; the homeless; the isolated and lonely; single mothers; IDP-s refuges; the unemployed; disenfranchised and marginalized youth; the elderly and others). There were living 70 persons (from the youngest one year six month till the oldest 75 years old). TEMI community was founded in 1991 and over the years the family grew to sometimes more than 100 people of different ages and backgrounds who were living and working together. TEMI welcomes residents of all ages, capacities, nationalities and seeks to provide a warm and supportive environment to physically and mentally handicapped children and adults as well as orphan minors. TEMI encourages learning for all its residents and tries to incorporate education in all facets of daily life. The plot of 22 ha of land (inc. 7 ha for wine yard) that accompanies the home is used to grow vineyard and garden, bake bread, work in a carpentry workshop etc., which promotes self sufficiency and independence and teamwork. There are still a lot of things to be done in the Community. (President: Mr. NIKA KVASHALI)

WORK ACTIVITIES: Helping residents of the TEMI community in constructing works, working in the garden, cleaning, games, teaching, caring for fosterlings and helping them in their daily activities. Naturally enough, we encourage able-bodied volunteers to participate in the heavier physical work. We don’t insist on this, but are most appreciative if you choose it. The normal working hours are six hours a day for 6 days a week. If you are doing a heavy job for a few hours, you can combine it with lighter agricultural work, such as planting/weeding/watering; teaching, helping with household chores, organized leisure activities etc. You may also change the combination of tasks during the period of your stay. The great majority of volunteers does not find the work onerous, but accept that it is a natural way to integrate effectively with the community. TEMI constructing works – to help artisans’ team; organic farming, vineyard (digging, mowing, weeding, sowing, planting, harvesting); taking care of the cows, chickens and the bees; wood workshop/carpentry/cabinet making – professional production – limited access largely dependent upon the experience of the individual volunteer; help in the kitchen (washing dishes, serving, etc); help in the laundry; help in the maintenance of the residence; working with community vulnerable members and other fosterlings: taking care of the physical condition of certain residents: (bathing, cleaning, feeding etc.); teaching overall skills, games, sport games, hiking, etc; teaching - learning workshops: music, pottery, drawing, arts, etc.; help at the community nursery school; help in staging a play / other entertainment. Day off – Sunday.

· The Volunteer needs to be interested in social – educational work.

· Volunteers should be flexible and willing to work with/together with children, love children.

· It is preferable that the volunteer will have some experience in working with children.

· It is preferable that the volunteer will have some practice in farming.

· It is preferable that the volunteer will be creative.

· Volunteers should be willing to become a part of our big family.

LEISURE TIME: Volunteers will participate in meetings and excursions and will have opportunity to visit historical monuments and sightseeing. They will also have chance to participate in some sport trainings.

WHAT TO BRING: Not necessary but recommended: some kind of working clothes and sleeping bags with you! You can also bring your music instruments, toys, songs and music and of course good mood and your creativity.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The AISI Centre works 9 months during the year: from September 20 till June 15. From 26 of December until 15 January is a New Year’s holidays, but the volunteers can be employed in a charity house.

LOCATION: Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, was founded in the 4th century by King Vakhtang Gorgasali on the site of its warm mineral-water springs. Tbilisi is an awe-inspiring city with ancient and fascinating history. It is a lively town with friendly people, that offers many cultural and leisure activities.

PROJECT MOTIVATION and SHORT HISTORY of SOCIAL REHABILITATION AND ADAPTATION CENTRE “AISI”: The Union “Center of Rehabilitation and Adaptation“ AISI was established in 2002 by the efforts of parents of children with disability and professionals. One of the parents allocated a building, which was repaired with the support of Ireland Foundation of Saint Lazarus. The Center began operation for 30 beneficiaries in 2004. The beneficiaries of the Center are the children and adolescents with mild and moderate learning disability. In 2001 the joint effort of partners and professionals has found the Union “AISI” Centre of Rehabilitation and Adaptation, which targeted to support the social integration of adolescents with disabilities and building an equal society in Georgia. In 2006 the joint effort of partners and professional has founded Union “NADI” (on the basis of “AISI” Centre of Social Rehabilitation and Adaptation) – aiming to promote a model for adolescents with disabilities over 17 years in Georgia. The personnel of the Center is the team of professionals, conducting the practical implementation of updated approaches, international experience of rehabilitation and social adaptation on the basis of multi-disciplinary team activities(occupational therapists, special teacher, psychologist, social worker, doctor, tapestry teacher, music teacher, art teacher, theatre director). In the Centre of “AISI” work 8 teachers, psychologist, occupational therapist. Children and adolescents with disabilities reach maximum level of independence in everyday life activities (including self-care, domestic activities, social relations, pre-vocational and vocational skill development) and acquire an awareness of civil society, supporting an increase of quality of life and community integration. Increase of independence in everyday activities of adolescence with disabilities (cooking in the kitchen).Pre-vocational and vocational training for future employment. LYVG is cooperating with Center of Youth Voluntary Activities “DEINETA” in Kaunas with project LT-21-9-2008-R2 “Panemune Nursing Home” for September 2008 - September 2009 (volunteer Nino Kiknavelidze – psychologist from social centre AISI) and with youth organization "Social Action" in Vilnius (volunteer Lasha Rostobaia – art therapeutic from social centre AISI) project 2005-LT-13 “Social interaction between healthy and impaired youth in a social” in Educational centre "Viltis" ("Hope") for September 2008 - September 2009.

Additionally from September 2013 rehabilitation and adaptation center AISI holds 2 two stored buildings at suburbs of Tbilisi, with the 9000m2 beautiful yard, with a small greenhouse where beneficiaries of the center are able to conduct garden activities, sport activities on the basketball yard and there is a little swimming pool too.

WORK ACTIVITIES: 4-5 hours per day social pedagogic work with mentally or physically handicapped children, adolescents and adults with mild , moderate and severe learning disabilities children from 6 to 17 years and adults from 18 years and above (about 40 people). Participate and help teenagers with different disabilities in the following activities: tapestry and polygraph workshops, music classes, drama, drawing, sport activities, after the activities volunteers should help to tidy up the environment; after dinner time they should organize little games. They can help to print little notebooks and learn how to weave the Georgian carpet by hands.

· The Volunteer needs to be interested in social – educational work.

· Volunteers should be flexible and willing to work with/together with children, love children.

· It is preferable that the volunteer will have some experience in working with children.

· It is preferable that the volunteer will be creative.

· Volunteers should be willing to become a part of our big family.

ACCOMMODATION: The centre can provide five bed-rooms (with 2 beds in each), kitchen, and bath-room (hot water, central heating). In the room of the staff there is a computer connected to internet.
