ROSKINO AFM Followup

The American Film Market (AFM), one of the key industry events of the year, was held in Santa Monica, California, from November 4 to November 11, 2015.

This year’s lineup included 407 films in over 30 languages, of which 87 were world premieres and 242 market premieres. Hundreds of projects have been presented at 391 exhibitor stands from 38 countries. 1600 buyers from 70 countries have registered for the event.

ROSKINO supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation jointly with the Elena and Gennady Timchenko Charitable Foundation and Aeroflot Russian Airlines Public Joint Stock Company has been an official partner of this prestigious industry event for five years.

The umbrella ROSKINO stand at the Loews hotel presented 30 Russian titles from the updated version of the DOORS catalogue and hosted market screenings for buyers. All the films featured in the official AFM catalogue distributed free of charge among the 10 000 registered participants of the market.

The 2015 edition of the ROSKINO stand presents 33 Russian film companies:

Under the present circumstances it remains one of the bridges connecting countries, nations, and all the people of good will. Our companies have registered a certain surge of interest. Perhaps we are now better prepared to meet an international demand. Perhaps the audience has grown more loyal to us, but most probably it is a combination of the two. Well-presented projects such as ‘The Crew’, ‘Mafia: Survival Game 3D’, and 'VERSUS' along with animation films such as ‘The Snow Queen’, ‘Quackerz 3D’ and the Smeshariki franchise featured among the best sellers. The contract values have not yet been disclosed but judging by the preliminary figures LA has been one of the most fruitful markets of the year for Russia’.

ART PICTURES

Fyodor Bondarchuk and Dmitry Rudovsky’s ART PICTURES studio presented an extensive catalogue that has been touring the world for several years. Sci-fi titles such as 'Inhabited Island' and 'Calculator' generated the biggest interest. Although comedy is a difficult and less popular genre, Japanese, Korean and Chinese buyers took a great interest in the new 'Anyone But Them' project. The film deserves attention not only for its extensive FX use but also because of an original take on apocalypse. AFM mostly results in package deals that are currently at the rights and costs negotiation phase. The actual signing is supposed to take place when the market is over.

SMESHARIKI CO. LTD / RIKI PRODUCTIONS

RIKI PRODUCTIONS jointly with ART PICTURES opened the sales of the whole Smeshariki animation franchise at the AFM. The package includes 'Smeshariki. Legend of the Golden Dragon', S'meshariki. Deja vu' and 'Smeshariki. The Beginning'.Riki productions presented a localized 50-minutes version of 'Smeshariki. Legend of the Golden Dragon' dubbed in English. The presentation was warmly received by the professional audience that appreciated the thrilling storyline, the excellent quality of animation along with international localization. The extensive merchandise range also caught the attention of the AFM visitors.

Companies from Latin America, Middle East, China and Eastern Europe showed most interest in the films. Agreements on broad cooperation with Brazilian and Chinese companies were reached.
