LET’S TALK ABOUT GREAT BRITAIN. WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT THIS COUNTRY?

Standing aloof on Europe’s western fringe, battered by some of the world’s roughest seas, Britain has clung to its detachment for centuries. The British state harbours four nations –Wales, Scotland, England and Northern Ireland – each with its own distinct culture. And then there’s the dense historical jigsaw, from stone circles to ruined abbeys, each corner of Britain has its story to tell. Surely no other country so modest in scale is so regionally pronounced, so packed with cultural variety, so connected to its past yet steadfastly modern.

The United Kingdom is one of the world's most popular tourist destinations. The UK offers the tourist a view into the past, as historical attractions and famous places surround you wherever you travel. Home of "world- class" museums, notable art collections, lush countryside, scenic landscapes, interesting architecture, quaint villages, and varied cultures, the United Kingdom is a destination that provides a wealth of fantastic destinations. Everybody has their own idea of the places, people and things that are the unmistakable images of the real United Kingdom.

I listed places I’d like to visit. I eliminated London places. London has so many iconic sights and things to do of its own that visitors sometimes overlook the other "must-see" places scattered all over the United Kingdom. It is my highly subjective sightseeing list.

Built five thousand years ago, the mysterious stone circle on the Salisbury Plain in southern England, Stonehenge attracts many visitors. Some have speculated that the large stones were set to worship the gods of the ancients, while others have suggested that it may have acted as an observatory or solar chronometer to mark the seasons.

The splendor, stately architecture and scenic grounds of Oxford University are unique reminders of the history of this famous institution. England's other famous university town, Cambridge, has a dramatic architecture and a wonderful sense of history. Be sure to tour the University and make time for King's College Chapel.

Canterbury Cathedral, sitting brilliantly on its plain, is considered by many to be the most glorious cathedral in the United Kingdom,

Hadrian's Wall was the Romans' attempt to gird the country across its middle and keep the "barbarians" in the north of the island.

Northern Ireland Attractions are among some of the best and most unique in the world.

The Giants Causeway is Northern Ireland's premier tourist attraction. The eighth Wonder of the World was formed 60 Million years ago and has over 40,000 columns of basalt rock.

Perhaps the most compelling reason to visit Scotland is that it offers some of the most beautiful vistas in the United Kingdom. Dominated by Edinburgh Castle, the city is a hotbed of cultural pursuits. It’s full of galleries and museums and hosts the biggest collection of arts festivals in the UK throughout July and August.Edinburgh is also home to one of the largest New Year's celebrations in the world, the famous Hogmanay.

Wales is an extremely diverse country with a fantastic landscape. Although, it's relatively small, there are hundreds of things to do and places to see here. The best include: the sleepy villages of the Snowdonia's fantastic mountain landscape; the vast and wild terrain of the Brecon Beacons; the cities of Cardiff and Glamorgan. The Welsh National Museum and Art Gallery is unique among British museums and galleries in its range of art and science displays. The Art Galleries provide magnificent settings for works by some of the world's most famous artists.

In conclusion I’d like to say the UK may be small, but it's full of a variety of amazing places stretching right from John O'Groats to Lands End, Belfast to St Davids. It has a wealth of history, culture, wildlife and its own unique eccentricities.
