Ex. 1. Give extensive answers to these questions.

1. What are guests requested to do when they stay at hotels?

2. What does a guest do to get registered at a hotel?

3. What services do modern hotels provide/offer?

4. Have you ever stayed at a hotel in your country or abroad? What services were available?

5. How can the visitor call a maid to his room?

6. How can the visitor have meals or drink at the hotel?

7. What may visitor want to have done?

8. What is a motel/hotel/guest house/B&B/inn? Explain the difference.

Ex. 2. You’re staying in a hotel where people who do service for you speak English. Ask them to do a favour for you. You want:

to have a quiet room to bring another towel to wake you up at 6.30 to send for the porter to bring an early breakfast to have some flowers to the room

Ex. 3. Make up dialogues on the basis of these situations.

1. You have failed to mention the change of a double room for a single one when you confirmed your reservation. Try to make the receptionist understand your position and give you a single room, if possible. Find out how you can extend your stay, if necessary.

2. You've just checked in. Ask the receptionist what services the hotel offers, where you can have meals, a newspaper to read, etc., and how you can get to the downtown.

3. You are staying at a small hotel abroad. Ask the telephone operator how you can make a call to the firm situated in the capital of this country.
