By the end of this module the students will be able to:

1. Make management decisions and assess their consequences

MS PROJECT

 

Effective project management using modern software tools “(MS-Project)»

 

MODULE SUMMARY

 

• Establish a system of knowledge based on the interconnection of standard processes and project management functions.

• Give students the basic terms used in project management, to review the existing international standards.

• Consider modern management techniques that are applicable to most projects.

• Define the scope of project management in the organization.

• Learn to use software project management (MS-Project).

 

In the course, students should:

 

1. Have an understanding of current approaches, methods and tools of project management.

2. Understand the nature of project management processes, namely:

• time management;

• risk management;

• resource management;

• monitoring and control of project progress;

• Change management during the project.

 

To know:

• Critical success factors for project

• Composition of the project management documentation

• Standard tools decomposition design works

• Methods to develop schedules

 

Be able to use project management tools, namely:

 

• Develop a project schedule in Microsoft Project;

• Develop a resource plan for the project in Microsoft Project;

• Keep track of the design works in Microsoft Project;

• Analyze deviation of design work on the timing, duration and labor costs involved resources;



• To manage the risks of the project.

 

This course provides lectures and practical training.

Workshops:

1. Targeting of the project;

2. Develop work breakdown structure in MS-Project;

3. Design and analysis of network design model in MS-Project;

4. Development schedule in MS-Project;

5. Account of work performed in MS-Project;

6. Analysis of projects in MS-Project;

7. Identification of project risks;

8. Project risk analysis;

9. Selecting risk response strategies and the development of measures to respond to risks.

Strategic Project Management

 

 

MODULE SUMMARY (INDICATIVE)

The module introduces students to project management and the role of project managers in an organisational environment. This encompasses a number of strategic issues such as Time Planning, Cost and Quality Planning when resources have to be shared amongst a number of demanding projects. Risk management is an element of this approach. The teaching approach includes case study and examples of project management, successful and unsuccessful, which have been documented in the past. Group discussion will allow the students to appreciate the subjectiveness of project management in contrast to the scientific approach of project planning.

 

 

AIMS

 

  • to provide an introduction to project management and the project lifecycle (both theoretical and practical), of relevance in all organisational contexts this will:

 

· improve knowledge and understanding of critical management approaches

· enhance the ability to manage complex projects in changing and developing environments

· provide a sound basis to extend their management capability in this area.
