The University of Cambridge

The University of Cambridge is a confederation of Colleges, Faculties and other institutions.

The University functions with a relatively small central administration, and with central bodies consisting of, and mainly elected by, the current academic personnel of the Faculties and Colleges. A large part of Cambridge’s day-to-day administration is carried out by teaching staff on behalf of their colleagues, and the University’s governmental structure is democratic. As Cambridge approaches its 800^th anniversary, it is not surprising that the way in which the University governs itself can appear complex. These pages outline the principal elements in these procedures in simple terms and define some Cambridge terminology. They are not an authoritative statement of the University’s Statutes, nor of the legal position in relation to the rights and duties of any body or bodies.

Kirovohrad

I live in Kirovohrad. It is not a big city but it is a regional centre. Its population is nearly 280 thousand people. Kirovohrad doesn’t belong to the most ancient cities of Ukraine. In the 17-18^th centuries it was a fortress.

The foundation of the fortress began in 1754. It was named St. Elisaveta. In some years a small town appeared around the fortress. It was called Elisavetgrad. In 1939 our town was called Kirovohrad.

Nowadays Kirovohrad is a green and cosy town. There are a lot of enterprises, offices, shops, banks, hospitals, schools, several high educational establishments in it.

There are two proffessional theatres in our town: the Ukrainian Musical Drama Theatre and the Puppit Theatre and some others.

There are also Regional Museum of Ethnography, Kropyvnytskyi, Yanovskyi and Karpenko-Karyi museams. There are a lot of libraries in our town. The biggest is the Kirovohrad scientific library named after Chizhevskyi.
