Pre-Internship II INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

 

Required:

· Pre-Internship II Handbook Available on-line available on NSU Blackboard and the Pre-II website.

· ID Holder and Lanyard (to hold NSU ID card used as identification at Pre-II site).

· NSU ePortfolio Chalk and Wire license available at the NSU Bookstore ($75.00 for one year, $100.00 for two year license, $50 renewal).

Additional Optional Materials:

o Guidelines and standards for preparation and delivery of lessons supplied by NSU professional methods instructor(s).

o Basic textbooks, supplementary books and materials, hands-on and technological materials appropriate for the preparation of lesson plans and instructional activities.

 

 

EVALUATION OF STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

Grade Scale: P (Pass) or F(Fail) or I (Incomplete)

To receive a passing grade in EDUC 4032 Pre-Internship II, the Teacher Candidate must have:

  1. Successfully completed all prescribed activities, forms and assignments as described in the syllabus and further described on the Pre-Internship II HANDBOOK.
  2. Successfully completed and passed ePortfolio Checkpoint #2.
  3. Attend and participate in all required seminars during the semester.

An incomplete or grade of “I” or “F” will be assigned to a student not completing one of the three criteria above.

PROFESSIONAL DRESS IS REQUIRED for Internship Visits,

AT ALL SEMINARS

AND Full Internship PLACEMENT INTERVIEWS


Pre-Internship II Rules & Requirements

1. Do not begin Pre-II internship after attending the first seminar.

2. All candidates must complete a current background check from Certifiedbackground.com before their placements are finalized. See the background check instructions (in this handbook) for more information.

3. Prepare and deliveryour Meet and Greetto Clinical Faculty. Follow assignment directions provided (see the instructions in this handbook). Give the Meet and Greet to the Clinical Faculty the first time you meet him/her either prior to beginning or on the first internship day. It is optional to give a copy to the principal.

4. Attend all required Pre-Internship II seminars(seminar s #1, 2, 3, 4) and required Full Internship placement interview & orientation seminar.

Each of the 4 seminars will be offered 3 times (attend oneof the three sessions). The seminars are open to students from all NSU campus locations. The seminar schedules are as follows NOTE: The meeting dates are listed on Pre-II Important Dates calendar

· Broken Arrow Campus: Thursdays, 10-12 am OrSaturdays, 9-11 am Building A, Auditorium (unless specified otherwise)

Or

· Tahlequah Campus: Fridays, 2-4 pm

Webb Building, Auditorium (unless specified otherwise)

 

5. Complete 10 full intern days. 9 at your host school site and 1 full day at a Pre-II peer’s school site (preferably a peer with the same major). Have your Clinical Faculty and the peer’s Clinical Faculty, sign the Field Experience Activity Record(this form must be kept up to date by the intern and should be available for the Pre-II instructor to view upon request.) Note: Peer reviews not required for those approved for the International Pre-II option. In place of the peer reviews, International Pre-II interns do 10 full days of internship and create a reflection on their experiences.



 

6. Prepare and teach 3 lessons. Prior to teaching, obtain evidence of approval to be taught from your Clinical Faculty. This evidence demonstrates that the Clinical Faculty does not think your lesson will disrupt their classroom curriculum continuity. Prior to teaching also get approval to be taught, or a grade, from your NSU methods instructor. Write a reflection after each lesson taught.

 

7. Competency 11 & Competency 14 assignments are submitted to Chalk and Wire. See Pre-II calendar for due dates and assignment instructions.

8. Pass e-Portfolio competencies 1,2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 (competencies 7, 8 and 15 completed during Full Internship).

 

9. Due at the end of the semester, during Pre-II Assignment check-in, submit the following (see the Pre-II Important Dates calendar for Pre-II Assignment check-in dates)

 

i. Field Experience Activity Report: Ten (10) days one day per week (nine in host school, one in peer classroom) recorded on this form with signature of Clinical Faculty and peer’s Clinical Faculty signature.

ii. Oneof the 3 lessons taught:Of the 3 lessons taught, submit one with a completed reflection (using the lesson format and instructions assigned in NSU professional education methods course). The lesson plan submitted must show evidence of a grade or approval to be taught by your NSU methods instructor AND approval to be taught by your Clinical Faculty. NOTE:Interns who have previously completed their professional education methods course will submit three (3) lesson plans which have been taught during Pre-Internship II and three completed reflections.

iii. Observation/Evaluation of lesson by Clinical Faculty:Provide a print out from Chalk and Wire of the results of this evaluation completed by the clinical faculty.

iv. Peer Observation/Evaluation of Lesson by Peer:Between weeks 3-10, a peer of your choosing will spend one full school day in your classroom and they will observe you teach a lesson. Then the peer will complete the Observation/Evaluation of the lesson in Chalk and Wire. You will print out the results from Chalk and Wire, make a copy for yourself and give your peer a copy and you’ll give them a copy of the lesson plan they observed you teach.

v. Peer Observation/Evaluation of Lesson - completed by you for a Peer. Between weeks 3-10, you will spend will spend one full school day in the classroom of a peer of your choosing and observe them teach a lesson. Then you will complete the Observation/Evaluation of their lesson in Chalk and Wire. They will print out the results from Chalk and Wire, make a copy for themselves and for you and they will give you a copy of the lesson plan they taught.

vi. Observation/Evaluation of Lesson - completed by you about yourself. After you have taught all three lessons complete the Self-Evaluation of a Lesson in Chalk and Wire. Print out the results.

vii. Professional Habits Inventory (print out from Chalk and Wire results) At the end of the internship, the Clinical Faculty completes the Professional Habits Inventory in Chalk and Wire, then you will print out the results.

viii. Pre-Internship II Final Evaluation formThe Clinical Faculty will list areas of your strengths, areas for further growth and any extra-curricular activities in which you participated. This form also asks the Clinical Faculty to either recommend or not recommend your continuation in the NSU Teacher Education Program.

ix. Pre-Intern II Responsibilities Check Sheet:During your internship you are expected to be involved in classroom activities and assume some responsibilities. Use this form to record your classroom activities and responsibilities, and lessons taught and have your Clinical Faculty sign it.
