Preparation for Regional Platforms

Our RP, the Northern European Platform, will be taking place in Stockholm, Sweden at November. Another focus of this presentation was to highlight the need for more interactive sessions to be included in the agendas of each RP.

Committee Chair candidates

As most of you should know, there are 5 committees in ESN. Well each year, the members of each committee elect who they want to be in the Chairing Team for their committee. Once these people have been elected, the CNR votes to then appoint them to the positions. If the CNR disagrees with the initial election, they can reject the candidates, leaving the committee to find a new person. During Saturday of CNR Krakow 2014, the candidates were presented to the CNR, and we voted on this on Sunday. ‎The initial election of Oana Georgiana Dumitrescu (ESN Southampton) was presented to the CNR for her to become a Vice-Chair of ICE.

Outcome: Candidates were discussed and the CNR had time to consider the applications before voting commenced on Sunday.

Image of international ESN events – Small Session

Basically, small sessions are when the event participants break up in small groups and they can have a discussion about certain things and brainstorm ideas. The three main topics that were discussed were:

1. The inclusion of ESN projects (SocialErasmus, EcxhangeAbility, Responsible Party, etc.)

2. The use of social media to promote the event

3. Video footage to be taken at statutory and non-statutory meetings to show the work we do.

If any of you would like further information on this, I have written a detailed summary to the CNR mailing list.

Outcome: The detailed summary made recommendations to multiple people, committees and project teams, which will be followed up on.

Evening

Saturday evening was another very inventive concept that the OC had in store for us. They combined the usual Eurodinner with a “Polish wedding”. The event participants al voted on a guy and a girl to be the “bride” and “groom”. During the evening they demonstrated typical Polish traditions and the some different games that would happen at a Polish wedding. It was all extremely entertaining, and everyone appreciated again the creativeness of the OC.

Sunday 8th June

The last day of the CNR was only a half-day. Not many topics were presented or discussed, as this is also the day we had to vote on the committee chairs and the new CNR Administrator and Secretary.

Votes

The voting of CNR Krakow 2014 concerned the appointment of the committee chairs (as I mentioned above), and also the new CNR Administrator and CNR Secretary.

Outcome: With 27 votes in favour, 1 against, and 8 abstentions, Oana Georgiana Dumitrescu (ESN Southampton) was appointed as a Vice-Chair of ICE. All other applicants were approved except the proposed Chair for the Network and Events Committee.

Afternoon/Evening

In the afternoon, the OC of the event told us to “wear something that could get dirty”, and then they drove us out to a surprise colour party! Again, this was just a fantastic initiative from the OC to organise something that has never been done before at an international event. It was a perfect ending to the whole event!

Monday 9th June

On Monday a lot of us took the opportunity provided by the OC for an additional activity to visit camp Auschwitz. It was a very powerful place to visit and an intense reminder of the atrocities that occurred during the Second World War.

From Monday night to Wednesday, a lot of NRs agreed to organise an “integration camp” where we could spend time getting to know each other (there were a lot of new NRs attending for the first time). It helped go a long way to develop a really great working connections between council members that will be working together for the next year.

Thanks for taking the time to read this. If you have any questions about the topics, or want to know more about what was covered in the full agenda, do not hesitate to contact me atrussia@esn.org

All the best
