National music instruments

· didgeridoo is wind instrument developed by Indigenous Australians of northern Australia around 1,500 years ago and still in widespread use today both in Australia and around the world

· bagpipes are a class of musical instrument, aerophones, using enclosed reeds fed from a constant reservoir of air in the form of a bag [Scotland and Ireland - uilleann pipes]

· vuvuzela is a plastic horn, about 65 centimetres (2 ft) long, which produces a loud monotone note. Many types of vuvuzela, made by several manufacturers, may produce various intensity and frequency outputs. The intensity of these outputs depends on the blowing technique and pressure exerted. Most used at football matches in South Africa

· harp is a multi-stringed instrument which has the plane of its strings positioned perpendicularly to the soundboard. All harps have a neck, resonator and strings [Northern Ireland]

29. XX – XXI century music

· the Queen: Freddie’s good vocal, different styles in different songs, original, live AV pioneers performances, gave birth to the most known rock anthems and rock epic songs.

· the Beatles: wrote hundreds of songs in the time that most could only write a few, had a gift for knowing what songs would likely be liked and what songs were not up to par, were the first artists to basically write their OWN songs rather than use songs written by song writers, had humour, and likability, were willing to experiment with new techniques and unconventional (at the time) instruments

· Madonna: has self confidence, shocks people, knew how to present herself, move, what to wear, etc., creative and edgy videos that got constant MTV play back in the 80s and 90s, good, catchy pop songs. The lyrics to "American Life" feature violent transitions and a political and religious view from Madonna. She questions the shallowness of modern life and the American dream under President George W. Bush's conservative watch. Towards the end of the song, Madonna raps naming the people who were working for her.

· Eminem: different from any rapper, songs about life, expanded the idea of "rhyme" to include words that people never thought could be rhymed, very straight in his lyrics, talented at using his voice as an instrument, Eminem used "The Real Slim Shady" to point out this hypocrisy, then "Without Me" to point out how Eminem-obsessed the media was, and then "White America" as a more direct exposition of how in control of the media, and the media's response to him, he was; brought fun to hip-hop; Dr Dre took him under his wing. Eminem has expressed his disdain for the policies of George W. Bush in songs such as "Square Dance", "We as Americans" and "Mosh".
