The influence of gender on the reactivity

Anatomical and physiological characteristics of male and female organisms determine their characteristics of reactivity and resistance. In clinical practice, there are the facts about the difference of occurrence and course of diseases in men and women. Thus, the infant mortality rate for boys is higher, cramping, hernia, diseases of the genitourinary system are found 50% more often than in girls. Men more often suffer from spondylitis, bronchitis, atherosclerosis, occlusive disease. Men have a great variety of reactions, a wider range of variability, higher polymorphism, the presence of the erased, asymptomatic, severe cases. Overall mortality among men in all age groups is higher than female.

The reactivity of the female body changes due to the menstrual cycle, pregnancy, menopause shifts. Women are more likely to have autoimmune pathology, chronic articular rheumatism, cholecystitis, pancreatitis, pyelonephritis, cystitis, kidney cysts; hypercholesterolemia develops rarely, atherosclerosis - later. Clinical manifestations of the disease in women have smaller differences of symptoms and a larger percentage of typical forms.

Nonspecific resistance is higher in women and more perfect in men; women are more resistant to hypoxia, blood loss, starvation, radial acceleration, the trauma, the set of natural exogenous factors.

The reason for the sexual differences of reactivity and disease is, in part, the opposite effect of androgens and estrogens: androgens increase and estrogens limit suppression function of lymphocytes, so autoimmune pathology affects women more often. Under the influence of female hormones production of high density lipoproteins varies, that affects the risk of developing of atherosclerosis. There is a certain value in cyclic changes in the female body, the features of the metabolism in men and in women. For example, a woman's body has a lower percentage of water than in men, lower resistance to alcohol; alcohol dehydrogenase activity is higher in men. There is also a certain value of the socio-environmental and occupational role of the sexes in the population.
