Caries

Caries - a chronic process associated with progressive demineralization and softening of hard tooth tissue with the subsequent formation of the defect (cavity). In its development, caries passes 4 stages. Stage of "white spots" - this is the first and, in rare cases, reversible using fluorine-containing preparations stage of caries. Externally, the tooth is not damaged, and the process is asymptomatic.

The main causes of tooth decay are: the composition of the microflora of the mouth, the qualitative composition of food (high consumption of carbohydrate foods), the quantity and quality of saliva, the presence of systemic disease, the amount of fluoride in drinking water, the external effects on the body (harmful production, the environment as a whole). You can add bite pathology, as well as a lack of oral hygiene of the local appearance of factors of caries.

Treatment of caries

Caries treatment is excision of diseased portions of the tooth, followed by filling the filling material defect (inlays, veneers). The greatest interest of patients raises the question of the quality of the materials used to treat caries.

What are the main materials currently used in modern dentistry? Until recently, it was the cement of various compositions, plastics, first-generation composites and amalgams. The first had a poor coloring, weak adhesion ( "adhesion") to the tooth tissues and high fragility, second and third - in addition - quickly changed color and erased, the fourth - although it has high strength and durability, but the metallic appearance negated all aesthetics. The current generation of filling materials (light-curing composite materials) is almost rid of the shortcomings of previous years: they have high adhesion to the tooth, high mechanical strength, color stability, low abrasion. In addition, a variety of materials, such as color and transparency, allows the physician to re-create the missing tooth or a tooth portion very close to a natural appearance. Cement is also not lost its relevance, because of their improved properties. They are widely used in pediatric practice due to its low toxicity in adult dentistry - as a "basis" for light-curing seal, as well as in small cavities without experiencing chewing load.

Pulpitis

Pulpitis is inflammation of dental pulp tissue. The pulp contains the blood vessels the nerves and connective tissue inside a tooth and provides the tooth’s blood and nutrients. Pulpitis is mainly caused by bacteria infection which itself is a secondary development of caries (tooth decay). It manifests itself in the form of a toothache.

Reversible pulpitis

This is the condition where the pulp is inflamed and is actively responding to an irritant. This may include a carious lesion that has not reached the pulp.

Symptoms include transient pain or sensitivity resulting from many stimuli, notably hot, cold, sweet, water and touch. The pulp is still considered to be vital. This means that once the irritant is eliminated, usually by removal of decay and the placement of a restoration, that the pulp will return to its normal, healthy state.
