The history of animation.

Thanksgiving Day in the USA

1. Thanksgiving is a special day in the USA; it’s a very old tradition.

2. Thanksgiving Day is a kind of a harvest festival.

3. It is celebrated on the 4th Thursday of November.

4. People don’t usually go to work.

5. Families always spend the day together.

6. People decorate their houses and make a pumpkin pie.

7. They have the big traditional dinner with roast turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce.

8. Also people visit relatives to give them presents.

9. People eat 46 million turkeys every holiday!

10. But every year the president gives a pardon to one turkey, and it’s really lucky!

11. The president’s turkey usually goes to live on a farm in Virginia.

12. And one turkey moved to Disneyland!

 

Music in Britain

1. The British people like music very much.

2. Lots of Welsh people love singing.

3. Wales is sometimes called “The Land of Song”.

4. Choirs are very popular in Wales.

5. There is a big music festival every August, called Eisteddfod.

6. It’s one of the biggest music festivals in Europe.

7. The songs of the festival are always in Welsh.

8. The bagpipes are Scotland’s national instrument.

9. Every August bagpipers play at a special event, the Military Tattoo, at Edinburgh Castle.

10. Scottish pipers wear a traditional kilt and a special hat.

11. In Glasgow they celebrate the World Bagpipe Championships every year.

12. At British schools music is obligatory until students are 14.

 

 

Celebrations in the UK

1. There are many national celebrations in the UK.

2. Scottish New Year is called “Hogmanay”.

3. People are wearing traditional Scottish clothes, listening to Scottish music, eating and drinking.

4. The first day of May is known as May Day.

5. British people are celebrating the coming summer.

6. Traditional May Day celebrations include Morris dancing, crowning a May Queen and dancing around a Maypole.

7. Notting Hill Carnival is celebrated in London.

8. People can enjoy the Caribbean music and food.

9. Some people are wearing costumes and dancing.

10. The Saint Patrick’s Day is celebrated on the 17th of March.

11. Irish people are wearing green clothes, listening to traditional Irish bands and taking part in a parade.

12. Stonehenge festival is a famous music festival in Britain.

13. People are watching their favourite bands and they are staying in tents.

14. In the third week of July people are counting and marking mute swans.

15. Swan upping dates from the 12th century.

16. As for me, I would like to celebrate…, because…

 

· “3” - tell about three holidays (not less than 8 sentences);

· “4” - tell about four holidays (not less than 10 sentences);

· “5” - tell about 5 holidays (not less than 12 sentences).

· 1 and 16 sentences are a must for everyone!

· Sentences in italics are not necessary to study.

 

The history of animation.

1. Felix the Cat was one of the 1st animated cartoon characters.



2. He didn’t speak because cartoons were silent in the 1920s.

3. In 1928 Walt and Roy Disney drew Mickey Mouse.

4. A Mickey Mouse cartoon was the 1st sound animation.

5. “The Flintstones” was the 1st TV cartoon in colour.

6. It started in the USA during the 1960s.

7. In 1970s the Russian animator Yuri Norstein did his famous work “Hedgehog in the Fog”.

8. His cartoon won international awards.

9. In 1995, “Toy Story” was the 1st computer-animated film.

10. Millions of people liked it very much.

11. During the 1990s, Japanese anime became very popular.

12. The illustrators drew manga characters for comics and anime.
