Tower of London

Known as the landmark of London, The Tower of London is one of the Top Attractions of London. Ideally set at the eastern boundary of the London City financial district, in proximity to River Thames and Tower Bridge is the Tower of London.

Having an interesting story behind its construction, The Tower of London is worth visiting during your England Travel. One really wonders that a man called William of Normandy, who was not even an English, built the Tower of London. William built it when he was agitated by Edward who broke his promise by giving his throne to Harold instead of giving it to William.

Standing high with a height of 100 feet and with 15 feet thick walls at certain places, the Tower of London took around 20 years for its construction. Serving as a perfect prison, the Tower of London was protected by a wide ditch preventing the prisoners to escape. The Bishop of Durham had the honor of being the first prisoner of the Tower of London. Queen Elizabeth I was imprisoned here in this tower during her sister Mary's reign.

Housing a number of towers, Tower of London is worth visiting during London Travel. Bell Tower, Bloody Tower, Byward Tower, Beauchamp Tower, brick Tower, Cradle Tower, Constable Tower, Develin Tower, Flint Tower, Lanthorn Tower, Martin Tower, Middle Tower, Salt Tower, Wakefield Tower, Well Tower and White Tower are some of the towers located in and around the Tower of London.

It was in 1603 that the Tower of London was turned in to a museum having rich collection of royal jewels that were once stolen from the Westminster Abbey. Apart from being the sight of many marriages, murders, museums, zoos and uproars, the Tower of London is known as a fortress for the monarch and a perfect prison for the enemies of monarchs.
