Morocco became one of the first to recognize the independence of the United States [in 1777].“

President Thomas Jefferson: Signed the longest standing treaty in American history with Morocco: The Moroccan-American Treaty of Friendship which was negotiated from 1783 to 1786. In addition, Morocco was the first country to formally recognize the United States in 1777.
