The First Olympic Games

Introduction

Since the 7 to 23 of February 2014 the XXIIWinter Olympic Games will be held in Sochi. It will be the first Olympic Games which will take place in Russia. According to the results of last Olympics the top-rated kinds of sport were hockey, biathlon and figure skating. Really, this kinds of sport attracted the attention of the audience most of all. The graceful beauty of figure skating, courage and bravery of hockey, speed ​​and excitement of biathlon-- this is what will be discussed in the project.

The History of ice hockey

The history of ice hockey is one of the most discussing among all kinds of sport. Traditionally, the birthplace of hockey is considered to be Montreal. Though, on Dutch pictures of 16th century one can see a lot of people playing on the ice game, that looks very much like hockey. But in spite of it the Motherland of modern ice hockey is Canada. The first ice hockey match took place in Montreal. The information about it as stated in Montreal newspaper ĞMontreal Gazetteğ. Each team consisted of 9 people. The players used a wooden puck. The equipment was taken from baseball. Hockey gates were first put on ice.

In the same year the first international match between the Canadian and English teams took place.

The first International ice-hockey tournament among women was held in April 1987 in New-York.7 women teams took part in the tournament.

 

 

The First Olympic Games

During the VIIth Olympic Games, which were held in Belgium in April 1920, later on 1982 was considered the first World Ice Hockey Championship. Ice hockey was included into the program of Olympic Games. And it was in 1920, during the Summer Olympic Games. Seven national teams took part in this tournament. Canadian players won gold medals. The silver medals was won by the USA team. Czechoslovak team won bronze medals.
