INFO ABOUT HOSTING ORGANISATIONS.

GENERAL INFO

Dear volunteers or future volunteers and Sending organizations,

We are looking forward to meeting you maybe in September and starting a new year with you. You are one of 12 volunteers from a lot of different countries. We hope that in the year ahead you will not only learn about Dutch Culture and language, but also each other’s!

During the year, we will challenge you to meet yourself, to meet other people, to meet the world and find out about your own belief. You can be sure that it will be a life changing experience!

The voluntary year is financed by Erasmus+

With these projects we will give young people between 18 and 30 from across Europe the chance to challenge themselves, to know themselves and develop themselves through 'non-formal' learning by doing volunteer work full time.

The goal for the young people:

- Contribute to a just society

- Developing and discover new skills, knowledge and work experience

- The ability to (learn to) live and work in groups

- Take note of and be part of Dutch culture, society and language

- Other young people to meet from different cultural, social, economic and religious backgrounds, in a respectful and open manner

- To reflect on their own spirituality and to be open to other religions and lifestyles.

We want to achieve this by:

- Young people actively participate in letting diaconal projects and social services

- Young people to live together in a community with other young people

- To be part of the social community in the village and to learn how diaconal projects for children can be helpful for social deprived children.

- Education and personal reflection: through a curriculum, training and support of mentors

The goal for the volunteers is divided into two dimensions: "Engage" and "Growth.

1. Engage

a. Participation (engaging) in social projects. Volunteers are introduced to a part the village community. We want to give young people the opportunity to move in this side of the society, to learn and to discover new talents and qualities in themselves and develop.

b. Encounter (engaging) with other volunteers in the house and the residential community, with other backgrounds, habits, beliefs, beliefs and ideas. The aim is cultural exchange, discovering shaping their identity.

2. Growth (Growth)

a. Personal growth. Mature and become independent, learn how to work in a team, growth in the view of society and the development of children.

On the one hand getting to know yourself and your own wishes and dreams. On the other hand the development of a broader perspective on society and the world.

We aim for volunteers who are interested in children in common and the development of children especially. The recruitment process starts with the application that volunteers may send directly to us or via their sending organizations. One of the conditions to apply is a good knowledge of English and good social skills because the volunteers have to work with children. Another condition is a proof of good conduct, because this is obliged in Dutch Youth care when you work with children.

All applicants will be asked to fill in a single application form. This form includes questions about the educational attainment, family, work experience and preferences regarding volunteering. In addition, we ask the candidates to write a motivation letter and must three references, a resume and a doctor's statement (that the candidate is physically and mentally able to volunteer abroad one).

The information we request is not intended to reject a candidate, but to get an idea of how the candidate's interest and abilities and what he / she have. In this way we can make an assessment about which project the volunteer fits well and the support the volunteer throughout the year by need.

When we think a candidate is suitable, we invite the candidate for a Skype or phone call. During this conversation we're trying to get to know the candidate, talk about expectations and provide them with information about the project and our organizations. The Skype calls are always lined with two people to avoid preferences and prejudices as much as possible.

In the interview, we mainly discuss the following topics:

1) Motivation. Why do you want to volunteer?

2) What do you wish to learn and what can you contribute?

3) What do you expect from life with a group of other volunteers?

4) Stability. They are supported by family and friends; they have recently had difficult experiences where we need to be aware of.

5) Preferred concerning the organization (target, accommodation, location)

After Skype calls and letters and emails we compare the interests, abilities and personalities of the volunteers with the potential of the placements. From the moment a volunteer agrees to participate in the project, we also contact the sending organization. From that moment we like to work well with the sending organization to ensure a good preparation, guidance throughout the year and guidance in return.

The volunteers, sending and host organization signs an EVS activity agreement in which is articulated the rights and responsibilities of all parties.

We try to give the selection process transparent and fair shape, with direct involvement of the sending organizations and volunteers. In our communication we pay much attention to the expectations of the volunteer and the placements, and we try to prepare the volunteers as well as possible on their EVS months in the Netherlands. We work in accordance with standards and rules for employees in Youth care; this manual states that a volunteer always provides extra help to serve and never can replace professional workers.

As you know we always need to put the partners in the application, Dutch NA prefers 1 volunteer for each partner, But it does not mean automatically that I will take a volunteer of your NGO, of course you will have the “first” selection (as well by me as by the hosting organization) but I will make a call to all the interested partners because for me the most important is that the volunteer fits the project and the hosting organization the best. This means also that all of you can send me proposals for volunteers for all the projects and new projects in the future for Humanitas and Siza and now also for the Glind. Of course do the volunteers of the partners have a preference above others.

INFO ABOUT HOSTING ORGANISATIONS.

Summary 1:

In this project Youngsters from countries that are less developed in the field of working with mentally disabled people will come to the Netherlands to be active in an organization that is active in this field. In this organization are a lot of different possibilities for education. They will work in Humanitas; in this organization they will have several possibilities. They will help in several forms of living situations for the mentally disabled; they will be in the working situations of them like a restaurant and other working places. They will have the possibilities to see how the work in the organization and the office and the management is done. Because we aim for youngsters out of former Eastern Europe the effect will be the best. There is a huge development to do in this field of health care and education. For them it will be a possibility to spread their knowledge in their own countries.

The project stimulates active European Citizenship because the volunteers will actively motivate and stimulate people around them to participate in both national and international projects. Also will this raise their interest in European people and projects. They will learn the differences and will be helped to put together the best from both worlds.

The volunteers will actively try to involve local youngsters with the projects of the organization. We will search for them, ask them and motivate them to participate in local society in general and at the host organization in particular. The host organization is an organization working with the mentally disabled, so creativity and entrepreneurship will play a big role in the content of the project.

In the field of youth unemployment there will be big possibilities for them after the project in their own countries because this is a new working field and organisations are egar to have people involved with more knowledge of more developed countries in this field.

Especially participation of youngsters in this work field is special and will be a big plus in their home situations; they will explore the cultural diversities in this and become better European citizens.

For this project it is very important the volunteer is aware of the fact that he or she will work with people with disabilities, they will stay a full year at the same group, the groups have a variety of disabilities, it kind be mental of quit high level, but it can also be people who have multiple serious disabilities and need much more physical care too. It is a very rewarding job, but still it is very good for youngsters to understand upfront what they maybe are facing.
