15.4 Detach the instrument cluster from the top yoke

Unscrew the nuts (arrowed) to remove the instrument cluster


 



speedometer and detach the cable (see illustration).

8Pull back the rubber boot on the instrument wiring and disconnect the red and black wiring connectors and the earth (ground) wire (see illustration).

9Unscrew the three nuts securing the instrument cluster to the mounting bracket and carefully remove it (see illustration).

10Installation is the reverse of
removal. Make sure that the speedometer
cable and wiring are correctly routed and
secured.

11On SW, SX and SY models, remove the
fairing (see Chapter 8).


 

12 Unscrew the knurled ring securing the speedometer cable to the back of the speedometer and detach the cable (see illustrations 15.3 or 15.7).

13Remove the screw that retains the lower end of the cable in the speedometer drive unit on the left-hand side of the front wheel hub and withdraw the cable (see illustration).

14Remove the cable, noting its routing through the guide on the front mudguard.

15Installation is the reverse of removal. Engage the forked lower end of the cable on the spade drive from the speedometer gearbox and tighten the retaining screw securely (see illustration).

16Route the cable through the guide on the mudguard, and the fairing bracket on SW, SX

Forked end (A) engages on spade drive (B)


and SY models (see illustration),and connect the squared upper end of the cable to the speedometer, then tighten the retaining ring securely.

17Check that the cable doesn't restrict steering movement or interfere with any other components.

18On SW, SX and SY models, install the fairing (see Chapter 8).

Speedometer

Check

1 Special equipment is required to check the
operation of this meter. If it is believed to be
faulty, take the speedometer to a Honda
dealer for assessment.
