14.1 Wiring connectors for the front turn signals

Signal lens is retained by screw (A) and tab (B)

remove the lens, noting how it fits (see illustration).

2Push the bulb into the socket and twist it anti-clockwise to remove it (see illustration).

3To test the bulb, first ensure that the metal bulb body and the bottom terminal is clean and free of corrosion; clean them with a knife or wire wool. Use jumper wires to connect the bulb body to the battery negative (-ve) terminal and the bottom terminal to the battery positive (+ve) terminal. If the bulb fails to illuminate, renew the bulb.

4 Check that the contacts inside the socket are clean and free from corrosion. Line up the pins on the bulb body with the slots in the socket, then push the bulb in and turn it clockwise until it locks into place. Note:It is a good idea to use a paper towel or dry cloth when handling the new bulb to prevent injury if the bulb should break and to increase bulb life.

5Check the condition of the lens sealing gasket (where fitted) and renew it if it isdamaged. Install the lens, locating the tab on the side of the lens in the turn signal body, and tighten the screw securely.

6 Check the operation of the turn signal light.

14 Turn signal assemblies -

removal and installation

Front

1 Disconnect the turn signal wiring connectors (see illustration). On R, T, V, W. X and Y models they are inside the headlight shell (see Section 8). Ease the wiring out of the back of the shell, then unscrew the nuts securing the signal assemblies to the headlight brackets, thread the nuts and washers off the wiring and remove the signal assemblies.

2 On SW, SX and SY models the wiring connectors are inside the fairing. Disconnect the connectors, then unscrew the nuts securing the signal assembly brackets to the fairing stay and withdraw the signal
