9 Brake/tail light bulbs - §*

test and renewal

1 Remove the two screws securing the tail light lens and remove the lens, noting how it fits (see illustration).

2 Push the bulb into the socket and twist it anti-clockwise to remove it (seeillustration).

3 To test the bulb, first ensure that the metal bulb body and the two bottom terminals are clean and free of corrosion; clean them with a knife or wire wool. Use jumper wires to connect the bulb body to the battery negative (-ve) terminal and then alternately connect the bottom terminals (brake light and tail light) to the battery positive (+ve) terminal. If either of the bulb elements fails to illuminate, renew the bulb.

4 Check that the contacts inside the socket are clean and free from corrosion. Line up the pins on the bulb body with the slots in the socket, then push the bulb in and turn it clockwise until it locks into place. Note:The pins on the bulb are offset so it can only be installed one way. It is a good idea to use a paper towel or dry cloth when handling the new bulb to prevent injury if the bulb should break and to increase bulb life.

5 Check the condition of the lens sealing gasket and renew it if it is damaged, then
