removal and installation

Removal

A

Warning: The engine must be completely cool before carrying out this procedure.

7.3b... then the upper mounting bolt

1On R, T, V, W, X and Y models remove the two radiator side panels; on SW, SX and SY models remove the fairing (see Chapter 8). Drain the cooling system (see Chapter 1). Unclip the stone guard from the front of the radiator.

2 Slacken the clips securing the main hoses to the top right-hand side and bottom left-hand side of the radiator and detach the hoses (see illustration).Disconnect the fan wiring connector (see illustration 4.3).

3Unscrew the radiator lower mounting bolts, noting the arrangement of the collar and rubber bushes, and swing the bottom of the radiator forward. Unscrew the radiator upper mounting bolt, noting the arrangement of the collar and rubber bushes (see illustration).

4Pull the radiator off the upper mounting lug and remove the radiator taking care not to damage the rubber shroud which is held in place by the radiator brackets (see illustrations).

5If necessary, separate the cooling fan (see Section 4) from the radiator.

6 Check the stone guard and the radiator for
signs of damage and clear any dirt or debris
that might obstruct air flow and inhibit cooling
(see Chapter 1). If the radiator fins are badly
damaged or broken the radiator must be
renewed. Also check the rubber mounting
grommets, and renew them if necessary.

Installation

7 Installation is the reverse of removal, noting
the following.

a) Ensure the rubber grommets and collars are correctly installed with the mounting bolts and that the rubber shroud is hooked over the upper radiator brackets.

b) Ensure the stone guard is held securely by its four mounting clips.

c) Make sure that the fan wiring is correctly connected.

d) Ensure the coolant hoses are in good condition (see Chapter 1), and are securely retained by their clamps, using new ones if necessary.

e) On completion refill the cooling system as described in Chapter 1.
