Discernment Exercise | 7 Images From History That Most Have Pictured Incorrectly

Here's a fun article that helps remind us personal verification of a belief is essential.

All too often we accept ideas from the media, government and our peers at their face value, usually due to social pressure, because 'everyone else says it is true.' But when we investigate something ourselves, we're sometimes surprised at what we find. And in this age of deception, we find ourselves in, usually what we thought was truth ends up looking much different than what we initially conceived of.

As the old adage says:

“There are two ways to be fooled. One is to believe what isn't true; the other is to refuse to believe what is true.”
― Søren Kierkegaard

It is obvious that time can distort history. We know this, yet still cling to some whopping lies that have been perpetuated, sometimes for hundreds or thousands of years. Check it out:

Jesus Was Not A White Guy With Long Flowing Locks.

As Christianity has been the religion of choice for Western culture for well over a thousand years now, the most important figure in that religion, Jesus of Nazareth, has come to be popularly depicted as a white guy with flowing, sandy hair.

We know, of course, that Jesus was of Middle Eastern origin. Moreover, scholars agree that he was a common man, and would have looked like a common man of his place and time. The above picture is an artist’s rendering, but Jesus would have looked more like the guy on the left than the guy on the right.

[Drystän comment]: I don’t think so. I think such claim is bullshit; Jesus was born of immaculate conception therefore he carried neither DNA from Joseph nor Mary, then why should he look like a damn dark Middle Eastern anyways? Besides, he is the son of God, an avatar, he can look however the hell he wants, he doesn’t have to be entrapped into genetics. Furthermore, coming with the purpose to touch the heart of man and build a following to spread his message, surely it would help being handsome and with an otherworldly beauty to attract attention rather than looking like a plain Semitic John Doe.
