Travelling

Modern life is impossible without travelling. Thousands of people travel every day either on business or for pleasure. They can travel by air, by rail, by sea or by road. There are a lot of means of travelling: by sea, by plane, by car, on foot. Tastes differ. That is why it is up to you to decide which means of travelling you would prefer. All means of travelling have their advantages and disadvantages. And people choose one according to their plans.

Of course, travelling by air is the fastest and the most convenient way, but it is the most expensive too. Travelling by train is slower than by plane, but it has its advantages. You can see much more interesting places of the country you are travelling through. Modern trains have very comfortable seats. There are also sleeping cars and dining cars which make even the longest journey enjoyable. Speed, comfort and safety are the main advantages of trains and planes.

Travelling by sea is very popular. Large ships and small river boats can visit foreign countries and different places of interest within their own country.

Most travelers carry a camera with them and take pictures of everything that interests them — the sights of a city, old churches, castles, mountains, lakes, waterfalls, forests, trees, flowers and plants, animals and birds. Later, perhaps years later, they will be reminded by the photos of the happy times they have had.

Nowadays people travel not only for pleasure but also on business. You have to go to other countries to take part in different negotiations, to sign contacts, to participate in different exhibitions, in order to push the goods produced by your firm or company. Travelling on business helps you to get more information about achievements of other companies, which will make your own business more successful.

Dear Emily,

I’m having a wonderful time on Capri. I’m staying at a lovely hotel in the Marina Grande. It’s a gorgeous sunny day. At the moment, I’m sitting in the town’s main square. The sandy beaches here are great and the food is very tasty. I love it!

I’m really enjoying myself! I think

Capri is an amazing island.

Love, Ben.

Dear Michael,

We’re having a great time here in the Rocky Mountains. We’re standing at a big campsite in JasperNational Park. It’s a beautiful warm morning. Right now, I’m having breakfast at the campsite cafe. Bill is still sleeping. The lakes in the park are amazing and the fresh fish is always delicious.

We love it here! JasperNational Park is a fantastic place.

Yours,

Kate.

English – a World Language

More then 2700 languages are spoken on our planet. Only about 250 of them have written alphabets and are used in international communication. 200 languages are spoken by not less than a million people. Only 13 are spoken by 50 and more million men.

Geographically English is the most widespread language on Earth. Approximately 400 million people speak English as their first language. About the same number of people use it as second language. It is the language of business, technology, aviation, sport and music. It is an official language in 44 countries.

Today, when English is one of the major languages in the world, it is difficult to realize that in Shakespeare's time for example, only a few million people spoke English.

English has become a world language because of its establishment as a native language outside England, in all the continents of the world.

English it is a wonderful language. It sounds beautiful, it is very flexible, creative and rich. English has the largest vocabulary, with approximately 500,000 words and 300,000 technical terms. And its grammar is very logical. All things are difficult, before they are easy.

The great poet Goethe once said, "A man, who knows no foreign language, doesn’t know his own one". Learning foreign languages is especially important nowadays. Some people learn language because they need them in their work, other travel abroad, and for some people studying language is a hobby.
