I. Reading
The children were having a lunch break in the shade of a small tree in Jim's front yard. Jim, an eighty-year-old school teacher and a baseball coach, began to retell them the stories from his life. He told them about hunting expeditions in the mountains and conquering a rattlesnake. He recalled his loyal dog named Pretty-Face and described his sorrow on the day when the dog died. He remembered his wife who always stayed up until late hours of the morning to bake the bread for the next day while he, often tired of teaching and hunting, went to bed. He was sorry that he hadn't stayed up with her then to spend a few hours together, because his wife died and it was too late to talk about it.

Jim shared his wisdom and reflections on his life with the children and advised them to spend more time with the people they loved. One of the boys was inspired and mesmerized by this extraordinary old man and thought that Jim's house was not a job at all, it was a classroom.

My favourite room is my bedroom. I love it because it is the only room in my house where I can lock myself away from the rest of the world. After a long hard day, all I want to do is go up to my cosy bedroom and either listen to some music, or lie down, unwind and watch a bit of TV. This room is very special to me because I have inhabited it for over five years. It is a part of me. It is full of my personal possessions and it has been decorated with my fair hands.

So what does this special room look like? Well, it's quite big, but not huge. There is a sofa bed, which leans against the left wall in the room. In front of the bed there is a dressing table with a large mirror. This is the place where I sit every morning and dry my hair and put on my make-up. Either side of the dressing table there are two wardrobes.

The wardrobe on the right is the one I use daily, the one on the left is full of disused toys, games, clothes and books. A bit messy! My television and video recorder are on a shelf above the dressing table. Also on this shelf, there is a selection of my favourite videos. On the left hand side of my bed, to the left of the door, there is a chest of drawers and on top of the chest I have my stereo.
When you enter my room, you'll notice that I have pictures of me at different stages of my life around the room. These are mostly about my favourite moments: birthday parties, days spent with my friends and family, photos from the places I've visited. They are all in small beautiful frames.
You'll see that I collect ceramics and embroidery. Although I don't have much, the few things I have aren't dusty or sloppy, but arranged neatly. You can tell that the things I do have, I take pride in.
My room has everything I need all in one concentrated place. I think my room has more character then all the other rooms in my house. My parents let me take care of everything in my room by myself. It has already seen a lot of changes during the last 5 years: new posters, new furniture and a lot of small stuff. In a few years time I think I'll change furniture or at least change the wallpaper.

To tell you the truth, I actually like the feeling of being the room owner.
