I. Reading
Hatch Hutchenson, a seventy-year-old man, is one of the farmers who come to the town to trade on Saturday. Although his farm, some three miles from town, is small, it is known to be one of the best-kept and best-worked places in the neighbourhood.

Hatch has inherited the farm from his father who came home badly wounded after a Civil War and couldn't work much. At the age of fifty, Hatch married a schoolteacher of forty. They were very much alike and they devoted their lives to their farm and their beloved son, Will Hutchenson, who was a strong boy, always cheerful, bright, and a great favourite with the others.

Will was talented in drawing so after he had finished high school, he went to Chicago and became a student in the Art Institute out there. Hal Weyman, another young fellow from their town was also in Chicago and he was a student at the university. Hal and Will hadn't been close friends before, but in Chicago they got together, went together to see plays, and they had a good many long talks.

II. Writing
Dear Nick,
This is to tell you that I'm in the college library preparing my final report. I think that I'll be busy there till 4 pm, so don't wait me for dinner. There is some food in the fridge I bought: sausages, cheese and some vegetables. So you can make a salad and a sandwich if you want. There is also pea soup on the gas stove.
Do you remember that we are going to Helen's birthday party tonight? Let's meet in the campus at 5.30.
See you soon.
Bye,
Chris

Many places in Ukraine like magnets attract tourists from year to year. They come to admire the wonderful ancient castles and cathedrals, as well as enchanting landscapes. Ukraine is very rich in historical and cultural treasures. And seven of them are really worth mentioning not only in Ukraine, but in the whole world. So we can name them "Seven Wonders of Ukraine". And it's quite clear that we should take care of them and preserve our historical and cultural heritage for the future generations. I'd like to tell you about some of them.

The Sofiyivka Biosphere Reserve (Uman) is one of them. The world knows many masterpieces of landscape gardening, but speaking about the Sofiyivka we can say that it undoubtedly ranks high among them. Everything in this park was made in the Greek style by Stanislav Pototsky, one of the richest magnates, who fell in love with a beautiful Greek girl Sofia. The park's wonderful landscapes, numerous fountains, artificial grottoes, exquisite antique sculptures and pavilion's design fascinate us.

The Palanok Castle in Mukachevo was a residence of Koriatovych's mighty family for almost 200 years. During the reign of Prince Felix Koriatovych the fortress became one of the strongest buildings in the whole country. The prince and his family lived in the highest part of the beautiful castle. The interior of the castle was very rich. The stronghold had a good armour and was surrounded by the deep ditch.

The other place to visit is The Khan's Palace in Bakhchisarai which was built in the 16th century. There were gardens which made a part of the palace complex and gave the town its name. The palace is situated on the right bank of the small river Churuk-Su in the Crimea.

Chersonesus (near the city of Sevastopol) was the last Greek colony on the coast of the Black Sea. It was founded in 422 BC. The colony was founded by a resident of a Greek town of Heraclea, named after the Greek hero. The city had existed for 2 000 years. Agriculture, pottery trade, bone carving and some other crafts flourished in Chersoneses. Today the visitors can stroll along the ancient streets and squares, admire the white marble columns on the seashore. The picturesque landscape of Chersonesus attracts many tourists. They come to see the mosaic panels and marble columns, painted pottery and tombstones.

Ukraine is also known for its beautiful nature. Modern villages especially in the west of the country can become great places for the development of eco-tourism in Ukraine. The Carpathian Mountains and their resort places can become the perfect holiday destinations. However, not all villages are good enough for the tourist to visit and experience village life in Ukraine, because not any kind of service is provided there and these places lack the well-developed infrastructure.
