I’m happy that I was a participant of the excursion to Novohrad-Volynskyi. Arriving at school I was shocked when I saw this school inside. This new and modern building was very big, clean and beautiful. Also the behavior and the discipline of the pupils were very good at the lessons and during the breaks. I must say that in Volyn people are very hospitable and kind. So I was pleasantly impressed. Halyna Mykolaivna Tabenska one of the first teachers of school #11 She was the first teacher of German. She likes the school and teaches her pupils not only English, but the art of living too. At the lessons she tries to be a friend to her pupils. I took a short interview. My first question was:

- Have you any problems with the pupils?

- I don’t have any problems. But in every class I have some lazy pupils who have no desire to study.

- We can always hear such a phrase from pupils: Oh, this teacher is very strict. So are you a strict teacher or not?

- As I’ve already said I try to be a friend for my pupils. First of all, but I do not like when pupils are lazy. So I think I am not a strict teacher.

- As I know in your school you have a teacher from the USA. Why do you think is such cooperation good for us?

- Of course it is good for us because we can talk to native speakers and know what problems they are troubled with.

- English is the key to what?

- I think English is the key of life. You can see that in Ukraine people do not speak English or other foreign languages so they can’t get a good job.

- What is great about your school?

- Oh, I think it is the discipline. I must say that I like it. It helps us to teach our pupils to be obedient, neat and tidy. I consider this way of behavior is a good school for their future life.

To be honest this trip really astonished me because I’ve been always thinking that it is impossible to find a new friend in such a short period of time, but we really did it! Let me start from the very beginning from arriving. Frankly speaking I was a little bit shocked by the school it’s unbelievably large, clean and beautiful!!! I’ve been to different places, in different countries, but for the first time I saw such a beautiful school. Oh, when I saw all those classrooms with modern equipment I was just amazed! But the greatest impressions I got was when I saw the gym and radios in every classroom. I think this is really a good idea. I wish we had the same. When I saw all the beauty of the school I told myself: This school really cares about its pupils! And now I would like to tell you a few words about the town. It seemed to me it is larger then ours. It is full of historical places, I mean not only the birthplace of Lesia Ukrainka. I was really amazed by the museum, which is located on the same place where the great writer lived. I was rather shocked by the silence in Novohrad-Volynskyi. I just couldn’t get used to it. There are less people on the streets, but they are friendlier! In the evening your town is very beautiful and charming. I think I really spent time with a lot of fun! And at the end of my story I would like to mention that in this town we got a lot of friends. I’m very happy that I visited Novohrad- Volynskyi. Thank you!!!

STUDENTS FROM SCHOOL #11 SAY

I think it was a very nice idea to invite students and teachers from Stryi. I like those people, especially girls. They are very intelligent. All the kids from Stryi are very clever and good at English. I liked our party and downtown excursion. I must say in their school they study in a very hard way. As for the teachers they are pretty nice, with a very good sense of humor. I didn’t like our Bridge. We were afraid to speak. I felt a kind of pressing from the teachers’ side because they wanted us to speak. The real bridge was later when we had our party. I hope we’ll meet with our guests again and will have fun. It would be nice to visit them in Stryi and have summer camp.
