Introduction

Set in 23 acres of playing fields and gardens just over one kilometre from the centre of Oxford and its dreaming spires, Headington is a vibrant day and boarding school for girls with an international outlook. Alongside our impressive academic credentials, our greatest strength lies in our commitment to understanding and meeting the needs of the individuals in our care. Headington is a place where learning is stimulating and fun, where your daughter can discover and explore her own strengths and interests.

At Headington, we have high expectations, and many visitors remark on the friendly, open and confident bearing of our pupils. We are not looking for a certain 'type', or for girls with particular talents. Our dynamic international environment enables all girls to appreciate a broad mix of cultures and backgrounds.

We believe that your daughter should be prepared to face a future full of possibilities. Girls leave Headington confident, but not arrogant; able to be independent yet sensitive to the needs and views of others; and possessing the academic credentials and adaptability to succeed.

International Students at Headington

Settling in is easy at Headington. Our ‘Big Sister’ programme teams every new girl in the Year 7 with a Sixth Form volunteer from her House, so everyone has a familiar face to look out for from day one. Those who join us in Years 8, 9 and 10 are assigned a member of staff to act as ‘induction mentor’, supporting them as they settle in and adapt to the school’s routines. Girls joining the Sixth Form in Year 12 are paired with a ‘buddy’ from their own year group who knows the school and can help them find their feet. Additional help and advice are on hand via the tutor network.

Where needed, English language support can be provided.

As befits a school with a Church of England foundation, Headington seeks to create an ethos which reflects key Christian values. We believe in a holistic, inclusive and encouraging approach to education, in which scholarly achievement, enterprise, creativity, leadership and independent thinking are nurtured and developed.

At Headington we see Pastoral Care as being central to the success of the pupils in the school. There is a network of academic staff with pastoral responsibilities from Heads of Section to individual tutors, who complement residential staff in the boarding houses. All staff are committed to helping every student to find, pursue and enjoy as many aspects of school life as they an.
