LIFE-SAVINF APPLIANCES

OOW: Good morning Inspector. Our Master charge me to accompany you during the inspection.

OOW: There are 2 lifebuoys are provided with self-igniting lights and smoke signals on the bridge

OOW: The weight of the lifebuoys on the bridge is 2 kg each, in the other place is 2.5 kg each

OOW: There are 12 parachute red rockets on the ship and they are valid before March next year.

OOW: We have got 28 life jackets all in all, with 3 in reserve each of them is fitted with whistle, lights and retro-reflective tapes.

OOW: EPIRBs and SARTs are fixed in a place close to the bridge.

OOW: Their batteries was checked 3 days ago. They are functioning right.

OOW: One life raft was washed overboard during the storm. How can we order new life raft?

OOW: Thank you for your answer.

OOW: I have noted all down, and I assure you that all the deficiencies will be rectified during the stay of our ship at your port. Let’s go to the Master’s cabin. This way, please.

OIL SLICK PROBLEM

OOW: Good morning Inspector. I’m sorry but the master is not on board now. He is at the agent’s office. He will be back in an hour.

OOW: I can not agree with your statement, we have already informed the port authorities about the slick and made an appropriate entry in the Ship’s Log Book

OOW: I think, that the oil slick drifted alongside our vessel due to wind and current.

OOW: I’m sure, that you have made a mistake as to the source of that slick, because our vessel is well provided with appropriate equipment for the prevention of marine pollution. We have all necessary facilities: oily water separating equipment, oil filtering system, tanks for oil residues, a slop tank and other equipment. Our equipment is on good condition, and they meet all operational requirements.

OOW: Yes, we keep an Oil Record Book. The last entry was made 3 days ago.

OOW: You may see anything you like here to satisfy yourself, that there are no traces of spilled or leaked oil. To settle the question of pollution, you may take sample from one of our tanks, and compare it with sample taken from oil spill alongside our vessel.

OOW: I’ll call the watch engineer. He will show you all necessary equipment and he’ll help you to take samples from the tanks.

OOW: When will the results of analyzes be ready?

OOW: Thank you inspector. This is our watch engineer, as for me, a must go.

PILOT ON BOARD

OOW: Good morning pilot. I’m the watch officer. Let’s go to the navigational bridge. This way, please.

OOW: Our ship length is 100m and breadth is 20m.

OOW: Her draft is 5.6 m fore and 6.9m aft.

OOW: Her maximum speed is 15 knots.

OOW: She answer the helm all right.

OOW: She sheers a little when there is a heavy swell or strong wing.

OOW: There is Burdmeyster Diesel o board of our vessel. It’s rather good engine.

OOW: It does 120 rpm

OOW: It takes about 40 minutes to get the engine ready.

OOW: Is taking a tag compulsory here?

OOW: What landmarks should we steer the course, that entrance to the port safety?

OOW: Is there any current in the fairway?

OOW: What is its depth?

OOW: What scheme of mooring do you often?

OOW: Thank you for your information, pilot.
