BRIDGE INSPECTIONS

OOW: Good morning Inspector. Our Master charge me to accompany you during the inspection.

OOW: We use Admiralty Charts and I have corrected all the charts according to the latest Notices to Mariners.

OOW: We have got latest Notices to Mariners from our agent after we got alongside.

OOW: All publications required by the SOLAS are in the chartroom on the shelf. The sailing directions are of the latest edition.

OOW: All deck officer speak English well as they constantly use English in their job.

OOW: All our deck officers hold relevant GMDSS certificate.

OOW: We adjust our magnetic compass regularly, and deviation table is posted in chartroom.

OOW: Gyro compass error is +1.5; steering error is 0.5

OOW: All deck officer are familiar with the operation of navigational equipment. Besides, we have put operating instructions close to the equipment

OOW: I have noted all down, and I assure you that all the deficiencies will be rectified before vessel departure. Let’s go to the Master’s cabin. This way, please.

CHECKING UP THE VESSEL’S EQUIPMENT.

OOW: Good morning Inspector. Our Master charge me to show you our equipment for prevention of marine pollution.

OOW: We have all necessary facilities: oily water separating equipment, oil-filtering system, tanks for oil residues, a slop tank and other equipment.

OOW: I think that our equipment is on good condition. The discharge of oily mixtures is automatically stopped when the oil content of effluent exceeds the level permitted be regulations.

OOW: Yes, we have the Oil content meter, these days no one can do without it.

OOW: We discharged oily bilge waters last about 1 week ago, as there is the appropriate entry in the Oil Record Book.

OOW: There is oil bilge waters separator on board of vessel. Samples take every 12 hours before and after the separator.

OOW: We have a garbage grinder and universal incinerator, therefore we incinerate oiled rags and other trash, about what makes entries into our Garbage Record Book.

OOW: When we are more than 300 miles off coast, we discharge sewage overboard at full speed. But when we are in the open sea, not far from coast or in ports all sewage is collected in the sewage tank.

OOW: I have noted it down. Bilge water separator certificate will be extend. Would you like to go to the Master’s cabin now? This way, please.

FIRE FIGHTING

OOW: Good morning Inspector. Our Master charge me to accompany you during the inspection.

OOW: Fire control plans are posted in the corridor on every deck.

OOW: We have foam fire extinguishers in the corridor.

OOW: Fire doors can be closed in two ways. If the fire alarm sounds, the doors will close automatically. And we can also close them by pressing the buttons near the doors.

OOW: We have CO2 fixed fire-fighting system and it’s controlled from the bridge.

OOW: We have 8 sets of fireman’s outfit and they are kept in a special room of easy of access.

OOW: It take about 2,5 minutes on average to put on protective clothing, boots, helmet and breathing apparatus.



OOW: Last fire drill was on ship two months ago.

OOW: I’ll report it to the Capitan.

OOW: Can we have our CO2 fire-extinguishers recharged in your port?

OOW: I have noted all down, and I assure you that all the deficiencies will be rectified before vessel departure. Let’s go to the Master’s cabin. This way, please.

GARBAGE PROBLEM

OOW: Good morning Inspector. I’m sorry but the master is not on board now. He will be back in one or two hours.

OOW: We know the rules under which dumping of garbage and any refuse is prohibited in the port waters. We always strictly observe the regulations.

OOW: We have special receptacles of different colors for keeping different types of garbage and we dump it when the ship is at sea far from land. You may check the entries in our Garbage Record Book. It won’t take much time.

OOW: I’m sure, that the garbage detected not far from our vessel, was dropped overboard by the passengers of pleasure boat, which passed by our vessel few minutes ago.

OOW: To avoid misunderstanding, I would like you to see yourself our garbage equipment, I means a garbage grinder and universal incinerator.

OOW: Off course not, I don’t mind if you drop in the galley. Can I order a garbage boats in your port to take away garbage and rubbish?

OOW: Thank you for your information, Inspector. May I accompany you during the inspection?

LIFE-SAVINF APPLIANCES

OOW: Good morning Inspector. Our Master charge me to accompany you during the inspection.

OOW: There are 2 lifebuoys are provided with self-igniting lights and smoke signals on the bridge

OOW: The weight of the lifebuoys on the bridge is 2 kg each, in the other place is 2.5 kg each

OOW: There are 12 parachute red rockets on the ship and they are valid before March next year.

OOW: We have got 28 life jackets all in all, with 3 in reserve each of them is fitted with whistle, lights and retro-reflective tapes.

OOW: EPIRBs and SARTs are fixed in a place close to the bridge.

OOW: Their batteries was checked 3 days ago. They are functioning right.

OOW: One life raft was washed overboard during the storm. How can we order new life raft?

OOW: Thank you for your answer.

OOW: I have noted all down, and I assure you that all the deficiencies will be rectified during the stay of our ship at your port. Let’s go to the Master’s cabin. This way, please.

OIL SLICK PROBLEM

OOW: Good morning Inspector. I’m sorry but the master is not on board now. He is at the agent’s office. He will be back in an hour.

OOW: I can not agree with your statement, we have already informed the port authorities about the slick and made an appropriate entry in the Ship’s Log Book

OOW: I think, that the oil slick drifted alongside our vessel due to wind and current.

OOW: I’m sure, that you have made a mistake as to the source of that slick, because our vessel is well provided with appropriate equipment for the prevention of marine pollution. We have all necessary facilities: oily water separating equipment, oil filtering system, tanks for oil residues, a slop tank and other equipment. Our equipment is on good condition, and they meet all operational requirements.

OOW: Yes, we keep an Oil Record Book. The last entry was made 3 days ago.

OOW: You may see anything you like here to satisfy yourself, that there are no traces of spilled or leaked oil. To settle the question of pollution, you may take sample from one of our tanks, and compare it with sample taken from oil spill alongside our vessel.

OOW: I’ll call the watch engineer. He will show you all necessary equipment and he’ll help you to take samples from the tanks.

OOW: When will the results of analyzes be ready?

OOW: Thank you inspector. This is our watch engineer, as for me, a must go.

 

PILOT ON BOARD

OOW: Good morning pilot. I’m the watch officer. Let’s go to the navigational bridge. This way, please.

OOW: Our ship length is 100m and breadth is 20m.

OOW: Her draft is 5.6 m fore and 6.9m aft.

OOW: Her maximum speed is 15 knots.

OOW: She answer the helm all right.

OOW: She sheers a little when there is a heavy swell or strong wing.
