N. praise n. credit

 

When people give you praise, they encourage you and tell you that you have done well.
eg The police officer received praise for his quick thinking.

 

If you get credit for doing something, people say you are responsible for its success.
eg Microsoft are the biggest software company in the world, but Apple MacIntosh get the credit for developing the home computer.

 

Q: What is the opposite of blame ?

A: The opposite of blame is praise.

 

Q: Do you think children get enough praise as they grow up ?

A: Most children get enough praise as they grow up.

 

Q: Why is it important ?

A: Because praise gives children confidence.

 

Q: What kind of people get a lot of praise in the newspapers ?

A: I think footballers get a lot of praise in the newspapers.

A: For scoring goals and entertaining the fans.

A: I think a huge meteor.

 

Q: Would you mind if mosquitoes died out ?

A: No, I wouldn't mind at all if mosquitoes died out.

 

Q: What about sharks ?

A: Yes, because they are beautiful animals./Yes, I would mind if sharks died out.

 

Q: Which animals are endangered species at the moment ?

A: I think polar bears, tigers and panda bears are endangered species at the moment.


Q: What kind of things are done to help them survive ?

A: The hunting of these animals has been banned and we are trying to breed them in captivity.

 

Q: Could you survive a week in the desert ?

A: I think I could survive a week in the desert but it'd be really difficult.


Q: What would you do for food and water ?

A: I would try to find an oasis but food would be more difficult.

 

V. to be happy to adv. happily

 

eg I am happy to help you move house this weekend.

I will happily do my share of the housework if you do yours.

 

In these sentences, ‘happy‘ and ‘happily‘ mean that you don’t mind doing something. It doesn’t mean that doing it actually makes you happy.

 

Q: What kind of chores are children usually happy to do for their parents ?

A: I don't think children are usually happy to do any chores for their parents but maybe cut the grass.
