Up (used after a verb)

 

Some verbs are often used with the preposition ‘up’ to show that the process is thoroughly completed.

 

eg I must tidy up my room before my mother gets here.

I tore up the photograph and threw the little pieces out of the window.

 



NB. These are not real phrasal verbs because the meaning of the verb is not changed by the word ‘up’.
