If you assume something you accept that it is true. Sometimes our assumptions are wrong because we don’t have proof.
eg I assumed he was in charge because he was telling everyone what to do.

We use this linking expression to join two clauses. The reason for doing the action in the first clause is to cause the action or situation in the second clause.


eg I bought my son a mobile so that he could call me in an emergency.

= I bought him the phone because I wanted him to be able to call me in an emergency.



NB We do not always use ‘that’.
