Digital Laser Level and Angle LocatorLaser levels project a beam of light onto a surface. One common use for laser levels is found in measuring tapes that shoot a level line on a wall to help hang pictures, cabinets or shelving. Engineers use laser levels that are a bit more sophisticated. For example, their laser levels not only project a level line for marking off a level foundation to a building but also locate and compute an angle, such as the corner of a room. Measuring Rod Rulers You have probably seen this tool in action while traveling: someone standing on the side of the road with a tool on a tripod pointed in the direction of another person holding a white measuring rod with black lines on it. This is a measuring rod. It has various uses, such as computing the distance between the highway and the bottom side of a bridge. Plan Measurers A plan measurer has a wheel on one end and a circular measuring device on the other end. Its purpose is to measure distances on a blueprint. Engineers adjust the measuring device to match the scale of the blueprint, place the wheel at the desired starting point and roll it to the destination to give them the exact distance or measurement. Laser Measures Laser measures compute the distance between itself and a given destination. For example, to measure between corners of a room, engineers simply hold the tool in one corner and shoot the beam of light to another corner to compute the dimension of the room.
