Graphic features of MS EXCEL

Objective: Familiar with the different types of charts and learn to build them; master the basic techniques of editing, formatting and placement diagrams

Spreadsheet data can be represented in graphical form. Excel supports various types of charts, each of which has several subtypes. Selecting the type and subtype of the chart depends on the appointment of the best and should provide data representation. To build chart you usually use the Chart Wizard. Job Chart Wizard consists of four steps. The first step – select the type and form, the second step – the selection of data on which to be plotted, the third step – drawing diagrams, the fourth step – placing chart. The diagram consists of: graphics (data series), axes, chart title, the plot area, etc. Finished chart can be edited.

Mixed (combined) chart types allow us to construct a chart with two axes and positioned on the same graph data types. When you create a chart, there are two types of mixed groups of rows. One group – the histogram, the other can be a graph diagram with areas or XY– point. Before calling the Chart Wizard is recommended to allocate series data, which will build a diagram. The selected area should contain rows with numeric data to create your own charts; it can also include text names of rows and columns in a table for registration chart.

Finished chart can be changed. During editing, you can change the chart type and under – chart type, source data, chart parameters. For each of these changes is called the corresponding step of the Chart Wizard diagrams, which are performed in the window changes. By editing the chart refers to format individual objects diagrams: change colors, fonts, borders, shading, etc. To make changes to the chart located on the same sheet with the original data and above all, should activate it by clicking the left mouse button anywhere on the chart, free of its elements.

1. Create a table modeled on Table 16

2. Enter the table name in cell A1. Enter the names of the months using AutoFill: fill in cell A4 «January», select the cell, then the mouse «drag» for marker autocomplete in the bottom right corner of the cell

3. Calculate the deviation: the difference indicators quarter 4 and quarter 1 column (+, -), the ratio of these same indicators in column (%). Set the appropriate format

4. Submit a histogram data on the volume of sales in two years:

• Select the range A4:C15

• Call the Chart Wizard, specify where the chart title Office furniture, the name of axes: X axis – Months, axis Y – Sales (million tenge), place the chart on an existing worksheet

• Edit the chart, giving it a human-readable form.

6. Construct a pie chart for total sales by month of the fourth quarter:

• select noncontiguous range A4:A15 and C4:C15 (hold down CTRL);

• call the Chart Wizard, select the type of pie;

• set the chart title – Office furniture (sales by month for the fourth quarter);

• data Labels tab, select the option and share category, mark the check box of the leader line;



• select the chart for placement on a separate sheet;

• edit the chart (change font size diagram objects, the location of individual elements);

• provide data labels in percentage format with two digits in the fractional part (Increase Decimal button);

• pull on the diagram sector in July.
