Video game console

A video game console is an interactive entertainment computer or customized computer system that produces a video display signal which can be used with a display device (a television, monitor, etc.) to display a video game. The term "video game console" is used to distinguish a machine designed for people to buy and use primarily for playing video games on a TV.

Part 1,Chapter 1

THE FIRST GENERATION

The first generation of video game consoles lasted from 1972, with the release of the Magnavox Odyssey, until 1977 when "pong"-style console manufacturers left the market due to the video game crash of 1977 and when microprocessor-based consoles were introduced.

· THE INTERACTIVE TELEVISON

Television engineer Ralph Baer conceived the idea of an interactive television while building a television set from scratch for Loral in 1951 in the Bronx, New York.

Baer created a simple two-player video game that could be displayed on a standard television set called Chase, where two dots chased each other around the screen

In 1967 Bill Harrison was brought on board, and a light gun was constructed from a toy rifle that was aimed at a target moved by another player.

After these steps manufacturer Magnavox launched a new project, called "The Magnavox Odyssey" The Magnavox Odyssey was the world's first commercial home video game console. After Odyssey there were some other projects, which were madden not only be Magnavox:

As you can see, these games were quite expensive and the most popular was the product of Japanese group "Nintendo", called "Color TV Game", which was the first multicolored game console.

This was a great start of evolution of the video game consoles and here ends the first generation.

Let's sum up:

From 1950s to 1977 computer engineers were looking for a way to entertain people and in the end they have finally found a great source of fun, it was just a question of time, when will they discover its true hugeness...
