Maker Space Almaty Coordinator

Full-time: 40 hours/week.

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION

Directs and oversees all operations of Maker Space Almaty and proactively manages services, programs and resources. Designs and delivers hands-on technology programs, recruits technology experts and volunteers, works with teachers and students on integrating technology into STEM curriculum, facilitates an entrepreneurship club and monitors open hours at Maker Space Almaty. Also coordinates the Mobile Makerspace, which delivers regular programming to other localities, including the bazaars on the outskirts of Almaty. Reports to the Director of Balbulak-Rodnik Public Fund and coordinates with the State Children’s Library, the American Corner Coordinator, and the U.S. Consulate General in Almaty.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Manage Maker Space Almaty and Coordinate Mobile Makerspace. 30%

Develops and implements an annual strategic plan that matches goals of Library, American Corner and grant agencies. Continually assesses IRC policies and procedures and devises strategies for responsive and cost-effective public services and outreach.

Develops policies and procedures, including technology use, (i.e. 3D printer, robotics and electronics, etc.), course registration and club participation, responsibilities of users, etc.

Develops and manages a network of volunteers and interns, including advertising, recruitment, training and responsibilities.

Develops marketing for the makerspace, coordinates a social media and web presence and represents the makerspace at technology events and shows.

Maintains an up-to-date calendar of events, programs and courses at Maker Space Almaty and via the Mobile Makerspace.

Maintains records and statistics on Maker Space Almaty and Mobile Makerspace. Prepares analytical reports on programs and their effectiveness. Submits monthly reports and statistics to American Corner.

Remains up-to-date with developments in makerspaces and their use in education, entrepreneurship and innovation. Keeps abreast of emerging technology.

Supervises one Assistant Coordinator of the Maker Space.

2. Outreach Management and Delivery: 50%

Designs events, programs and courses at Maker Space Almaty and via the Mobile Makerspace. Coordinates marketing, set-up, attendance and participation, and arranges facilitators and instructors.

Dependent upon expertise, designs and delivers technology courses to a wide range of audiences, but, in particular, young entrepreneurs, university students, emerging leaders unemployed youth and the underserved.

Works closely with instructors and students at local schools and universities to incorporate making programs into curriculum, through visits to the makerspace of through teacher training workshops.

Organizes and facilitates regular open, public hours at Maker Space Almaty. Offers tours of the makerspace and describes resources and services.

Develops an Entrepreneurship Club and facilitates regular meet-ups, complete with visiting speakers, fieldtrips to companies and businesses, meetings with company representatives, virtual programs with U.S. experts, etc.

3. Resource Management and Development. 15%

Develops familiarity with all technology resources. Ensures that all equipment is in good working condition. Bears responsibility for equipment and resources safety at the Maker Space.

Reviews resource needs, assesses new technology and recommends additional resources that add to the capabilities of the makerspace.

4. Other Duties as Assigned. 5%
