AT THE UNIVERSITY

Part I

Helen:Hello, Pete! What are you doing here?

Pete: Hello, Helen, I’m conducting research to improve my knowledge of English.

Helen:Is this process difficult for you?

Pete: No, it’s not. I left school with advanced learning of English, besides I've been to England.

Helen:Really? Have you? When were you there?

Pete: I was there last summer with the best pupils of our group.

Helen:What have you seen there?

Pete: Oh, I've seen a lot. I've been to Oxford and Cambridge, the two oldest universities of England, and to many other places of interest. But most of all I liked London with its parks and gardens. I'll tell you about itlater.

Helen:How interesting! I think you enjoyed your trip tremendously, didn't you?

Pete: Of course, I did. Well, Helen, and what are you doing here, in the reading-hall?

Helen: I'm waiting for Mike here.

Pete: Hasn't he graduated from the University yet?

Helen:You’re right. He has already graduated from the University. Now he is a post-graduate. I'd like to speak to him.

Pete: Oh, Helen. I've just seen him in the canteen. He is having dinner there.

Helen:Then, I'll go there.

Part II

(In the canteen)

Helen:Hello, Mike!

Mike: Hello, Helen! Would you like something to eat?

Helen:No, thanks, I'm not hungry, I've already had my dinner. Mike, I've come to you for a piece of advice. You have graduated from the faculty my brother wants to enter. But I don't know whom I must speak to about it. Ibelieve that your faculty is more interesting though it is more difficult than ours. Some subjects he is deeply interested in such as mathematics and the strength of materials are studied more thoroughly at your faculty.

Mike:You are right, Helen. But undergraduates of our faculty work very hard, they write more term-papers than undergraduates of your faculty. Besides, the course at our faculty is longer than at yours. It runs six years.

Helen:Iknow it. I know that there are a lot of optional courses at your faculty. So each student may choose any course he or she is interested in.

Mike:Yes, Helen. I hope he will pass exams with good and excellent marks and everything will be all right.

Helen:Thank you ever so much, Mike.
