This tragic incident occurred in spite of Jaegr being a famous balloonist with a great deal of experience and expertise. As a fellow balloonist, Gerry, who tells the story, is well aware of the skill necessary to inflate a balloon without any help. It is particularly tragic that nobody will ever know exactly what happened. Now that you've heard the tragic story, please answer the following questions. 1 Why was Herr Jaeger famous, according to Gerry's opening remarks? 2 Where did the hydrogen gas for filling balloons come from? 3 How many people helped Herr Jaeger to fill his balloon? 4 How could Herr Jaeger manage to get the balloon from the hydrogen pipe to the basket? 5 Why did the balloon suddenly start to go up, on the first occasion? 6 Where were Gerry and his friends when they heard a shout and realized something was wrong? 7 Would it have been a good idea for Jaeger to loose and fall to the ground when he had been lifted by the balloon for three seconds? 8 Why could the onlookers never find out exactly what had happened to Jaeger? 9 How do we know that Jaeger's wife knows anything about ballooning? 10 What eventually happened to the balloon, after Jaeger had fallen to the ground?   15.
